6 dead after being hit by freight train
Six railway workers died after they were hit by a freight train in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province on Tuesday morning, China Railway Harbin Bureau Group said. The accident occurred around 1:55 am when the workers were on the track of a railway section on the outskirts of the city of Jiamusi, sources at the company said. Two died on the spot and four succumbed to their injuries after rescue efforts failed. The cause of the accident is not yet known and an investigation is continuing.
Air route connects Shenzhen and Riyadh
A direct passenger air route linking Shenzhen, Guangdong province, and Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, was launched on Monday, becoming the fifth direct route from Shenzhen to the Middle East. The flight carried more than 200 passengers, with a load factor of over 80 percent. The flights, operated by China Southern Airlines Airbus A330 aircraft will depart every Monday and Friday, with a flight time of about nine and a half hours.
Work begins on Asia's largest hangar
Construction has begun on a China Eastern Airlines international aviation maintenance services platform in the Yangshan special comprehensive bonded zone in Shanghai. The 1.5 billion yuan ($211 million) platform will include three hangars and supporting workshops and facilities for accessory repair and refitting projects, covering a total area of over 110,000 square meters. Fang Zhaoya, president of China Eastern's technology company, said the platform's Hangar No 1 will be the largest hangar in Asia.
Former Shenyang senior legislator jailed
A court on Monday sentenced Fu Zhongwei, former head of the standing committee of the municipal people's congress of Shenyang, Liaoning province, to 15 years in prison for accepting bribes. Between 2003 and 2022, Fu took advantage of his various positions to help others in matters concerning business operations, case handling and job transfers, and illegally accepted bribes worth 64.7 million yuan ($9.1 million).
Tunnel being built in Qinghai collapses
A tunnel under construction in Northwest China's Qinghai province collapsed on Tuesday afternoon, local authorities said. The collapse occurred at the Baimuxia Tunnel in the Huzhu Tu autonomous county in the city of Haidong, the city's emergency management bureau said. Rescue efforts are underway.
