Former political adviser arrested for graft
Yang Kening, a former senior political adviser in Sichuan province, has been arrested on suspicion of taking bribes, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said on Monday. Yang's case was handed over to prosecutors following the conclusion of a National Commission of Supervision investigation, it said. Yang was formerly a member of the leading Communist Party of China members group of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice-chairman of the committee. He was placed under investigation for suspected severe violations of Party discipline and national laws in November, and expelled from the CPC and dismissed from public office in May.
Trapped miner dead in flooded coal mine
The body of a trapped miner reported missing after a coal mine flooded in Shandong province on Saturday afternoon has been found by rescuers, officials said. By 4 am Monday, the mine tunnel had been cleared of floodwater but was still clogged with a large amount of silt, they said. Rescuers began dredging work on Monday in their efforts to find seven other trapped miners at the Huafeng coal mine in Ningyang county, Tai'an. Two of the 10 people working underground when the mine flooded managed to escape.
Crackdown on street racing stepped up
Police will step up a crackdown on street racing to ensure safe and quiet nights for residents, the Ministry of Public Security said on Monday. Car racing on streets, mostly taking place at night to avoid police intervention, not only threatens traffic safety but also makes noise and disturbs people's rest, particularly when students are preparing for high school and college entrance exams, the ministry said in a news release. It said a nationwide operation against street racing this year has made significant progress.
Ex-Inner Mongolia legislator under probe
Wang Bo, former deputy head of the standing committee of the people's congress in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is under investigation for suspected severe violations of Party discipline and national laws, China's top anti-graft bodies said on Monday. Wang is being investigated by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.
