Tianjin's child actors shine in Peking Opera classic

Forty young Peking Opera enthusiasts performed the Peking Opera classic Prosperity Brought by the Dragon and the Phoenix to celebrate the new year on Jan 1 in North China's Tianjin.

The performers had an average age of eight, with the youngest being only four years old. Among them, dozens were kindergarteners making their debut on the Peking Opera stage.

The Prosperity Brought by the Dragon and the Phoenix is a vintage work known for its majestic and lively scenes, large cast, and themes of the Chinese nation's journey of formation through diversity and unity. It is a beloved choice for families during the holiday season.

According to Gao Hang, the artistic director of the show, this particular repertoire was performed once again by the child actors of the Cathay Future Teenagers and Children's Peking Opera Troupe after a hiatus of over 30 years.

This performance involved a modest adaptation of the original play, condensing its length to two and a half hours.

Zhao Qian, deputy chairman of the Cathay Future Foundation, expressed the foundation's commitment to promoting Peking Opera arts among children and fostering their profound love for national cultural art forms.
