Traditional Yi ethnic fashion dazzles at first-ever Chuxiong Fashion Week
Models showed off the dazzling fashion of the traditional Yi ethnic culture on Saturday at the beginning of China's first-ever Chuxiong Fashion Week.
The seven-day event is billed as an opportunity for cultural communication. It features teams from China, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand, who have all come to the Chuxiong Yi autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province, to strut their stuff.
Yi ethnic costumes are deeply rooted in the Yi people's life. They were included in the national intangible cultural heritage list and have shined at Shanghai, New York, and Milan fashion weeks.
Known as the earliest runway show in the world, the event originated in Zhiju village, Yongren county and has a history of over 1,350 years, said Zhang Wenwang, deputy Party secretary of Chuxiong.
He added that the event aims to infuse the cultural tradition of Yi ethnic costumes with modern fashion, revitalizing their deep traditional heritage and enriching contemporary fashion with the beauty of Yi ethnic costumes.
