China's Ding wins volleyball Polish Supercup with Chemik Police
WARSAW -- China's setter Ding Xia clinched the Polish Supercup with Chemik Police after her new team defeated LKS Commercecon in four sets 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 25-17) in Lodz on Wednesday.
On Sunday, the 33-year-old made her official debut for the Polish side. A member of the Dream Team at the 2019 FIVB Women's World Cup, Ding scored one point, while her team beat KS Palac Bydgoszcz in straight sets 25-23, 25-17, 25-22.
On Wednesday, Ding won her first trophy as a Chemik Police setter. Marco Fenoglio's players were seen as favorites and they lived up to expectations as they sealed the game against LKS Commercecon Lodz in four sets.
The opening set was tight, but it was Chemik who had the last word as the visitors won 25-20. Then LKS rallied to level the match at 1-1 in sets with the same gap of five points on the scoreboard (25-20). Despite Ding's efforts, Chemik's players couldn't find a way to stop Aleksandra Gryka.
In the third set, Chemik returned to form. Bruna Honorio and Saliha Sahin performed excellently in attack, helping Chemik regain control of the clash. After a 25-20 victory, Fenoglio's players were just one step away from taking the cup. In the fourth set, spectators witnessed full domination by Chemik's players, who beat LKS 25-17 to close the game.
Ding's team extended their winning streak to four as they commenced a league campaign with three consecutive victories. On Sunday, they won the Polish Supercup for the fourth time in the club's history.
