This time of the year, Trader Joe’s stores transform into a festive wonderland of shelves packed with cheerful seasonal items that you can only enjoy for a few months. Thanks to an increase in plant-based product releases in the last few years, there is a well-rounded selection of vegan items this time of year.

Here are the best vegan baked goods, hot drinks, and candies that you should add to your list this winter to celebrate the holiday season in a totally plant-based way. For our favorite year-round vegan products at Trader Joe’s, visit this handy guide of the best meatless and dairy-free buys.

The Best Vegan Holiday Products at Trader Joe’s

1. Vegan Gingerbread Loaf

If I were to recommend one item on this list as a must-try, it’s this dairy-free gingerbread loaf. Moist, festive, and topped with crystallized sugar which gives it a very welcome crunch in contrast to the soft spicy bread, this is one of those ‘bet you can’t just have one slice’ items, and I’ve capped off many a night devouring the entire thing. Toast a slice, smother it in some plant-based butter, and you have yourself a holiday treat that will be a hit with anyone.

2. Wintry Blend Ground Coffee

Why not make every part of your routine festive? TJ’s Wintry Blend coffee amps up your morning cup of joe with spices like clove, cinnamon, and peppercorn. Get this fan-favorite soon because it will only be on shelves during the winter months, and sells out fast.

3. Non-Dairy Mint and Chip Bon Bons

To add to Trader Joe’s roster of dairy-free delights, these Mint & Chip Bon Bons are completely vegan and marry two of the best flavors for a wintry treat: Dark chocolate and mint. Find these in the frozen aisle.

4. Peppermint Mini Marshmallows

Trader Joe’s is one of the few trusty places where you’re able to find gelatin-free marshmallows. During the holiday season, they bulk up their offerings with these peppermint-flavored mini marshmallows which are the perfect topping for a steaming cup of cocoa.

5. Scandinavian Tidings

Trader Joe’s is an expert at taking traditionally animal-based items and making them accidentally vegan, such as these gummies which trade gelatin for tapioca syrup and cornstarch and get their colors from natural sources like turmeric, spirulina, and vegetable extracts.

6. Candy Cane Green Tea

While we’re spicing up your coffee, could we interest you in some Candy Cane Green Tea to get into the spirit of the season? In addition to peppermint, this holiday tea also features notes of vanilla and is a great decaffeinated option to accompany your vegan dessert.

7. O’Nog Non-Dairy Oat Beverage

If you love the syrupy sweetness of egg nog, why not trade in the traditional recipe for a dairy-free version made from oats? Equally as delicious, this plant-based beverage is great alongside cookies or can be used as a creamer in your morning cup of coffee.

8. Winter Wassail Punch

What would the holidays be without a good punch? Trader Joe’s Winter Wassail Punch is a fan favorite for a reason. The brand describes the taste as a “sweetened blend of black currant, apple, and lemon juices, with cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, and orange peel.” Add slices of citrus and rosemary for a beautiful garnish, this punch is a great alcohol-free beverage option for guests, and can also be infused with whatever liquor you please, but we’d recommend a woodsy Bourbon.

9. Candy Cane Joe Os

Trader Joe’s well-loved copycat Oreo cookies get a holiday makeover with a candy cane flavor. If you love chocolate and peppermint, pick up a box of these vegan cookies and you’ll discover that the dairy-free creamy filling is freckled with bits of candy cane pieces for extra cheer.

Gone are the days when tofu and one brand of dairy-free cheese were the only vegan options at your grocery store. Now, if you’re looking for a crackable vegan egg, there’s a French company making exactly that, or if you’re seeking whipping cream made from lentil milk, Country Crock has you covered.

With so many vegan milks, cheeses, meat alternatives, and dairy-free butters crowding supermarket shelves, companies are looking to carve out new niches in the plant-based food category. Food giants have their sights set on the demand for vegan seafood. After the release of the documentary Seaspiracy, consumers are seeking substitutes for fish for environmental purposes, as well as for health benefits, especially now that a new study recently linked fish consumption to skin cancer.

Trader Joe’s is answering the call for vegan fish, just over a year after announcing on the popular grocer’s podcast that fans could expect plant-based seafood on store shelves soon. TJ’s most recent drop is giving dinner party hosts something to serve alongside traditional charcuterie boards so that dairy-free guests or vegans at the table don’t have to miss out. This latest innovation: Trader Joe’s Vegan Salmonesque Spread.

Trader Joe’s Launches New Vegan Salmonesque Spread

For lovers of smoked salmon spread, Trader Joe’s new offering features a dairy-free cream cheese base with plant-based salmon bits made from konjac root. Freckled with capers and dill, this dip is a totally vegan way to indulge in a favorite bagel with a schmear without the dairy. Sold at Trader Joe’s locations for $4.29 per 8-ounce tub, you can find this vegan Salmoneqsue Spread in the aisle where hummus and dips are sold at TJ’s nationwide. But as always, we suggest you call ahead to make sure your local store has it in stock.

What is the Vegan Salmonesque Spread made of?

With a lengthy list of hard-to-read ingredients and 20 percent of your daily recommended saturated fat per two teaspoon serving, if you’re trying to eat a whole food plant-based diet, this may not be the product for you. But, if you’ve been searching for a non-dairy spread for brunch celebrations or date night, this Salmonesque Spread may be your new go-to.

The dairy-free cream cheese base is made with coconut oil, potato starch, and chickpea protein. The recipe also features vegan mayonnaise, soy protein concentrate, canola oil, safflower oil, guar gum, xanthan gum, carrageenan, and additives for color.

What Does the Vegan Salmonesque Spread Taste Like?

After testing the spread on both crackers as well as toasted bread, I was surprised at how well konjac replicated the texture of lox. With a chewy bite, the plant – dyed rosy pink with beetroot powder – nearly identically achieved the flakey yet tender, silky texture of real smoked salmon

The dairy-free cream cheese alternative was smooth and rich, although I personally would have appreciated a bit of a thicker, more whipped base. The capers and dill throughout were reminiscent of a lox bagel sandwich with all the traditional toppings.

This is a valiant effort at creating a vegan smoked salmon dip that most seafood eaters would try and like. My one complaint would be that it has an overpowering tangy lemon flavor that is a bit too intense for my liking – and somewhat dominates the spread’s other flavors.

If you’re searching for a way to delight a vegan at a dinner party, Trader Joe’s Vegan Salmonesque Spread would definitely do the trick. And if faux fish isn’t their thing? Trader Joe’s has a great Vegan Caramelized Onion Dip, Vegan Tzatziki, and Vegan Nacho Dip, all of which are tasty and do a good job at satisfying a before-dinner bite.

Fans of Korean cuisine who go plant-based or vegan may assume that they need to give up their favorite traditional Korean dishes – even Kimchi, which is vegan, often has fish paste as an ingredient.

Luckily, Trader Joe’s is providing an easy solution with its brand new Korean Beefless Bulgogi. The frozen product is “plant-based Bulgogi style strips marinated in a sweet and savory soy sauce” that is completely vegan and rings in at a reasonable $4.49 for a 10-ounce package, which contains three servings.

You can find this new meatless item in the frozen aisle of your local Trader Joe’s, which debuted the new product this week nationwide.

What is Trader Joe’s Beefless Bulgogi Made from?

Traditional Korean Bulgogi – or fire meat in Korean – is thin, sweet, and savory marinated slices of beef that are often cooked over a barbeque. The cooked meat slices are typically served alongside rice and topped with green onion.

Trader Joe’s Korean Beefless Bulgogi contains just the frozen meat alternative, so you’ll need to provide your own sides and toppings. The base is made from soy, and the meat alternative contains wheat, so take note that although it’s vegan, it’s not gluten-free.

One serving contains 230 calories, 11 grams of fat, 580 milligrams of sodium, 5 grams of fiber, and 16 grams of protein. The vegan meat ingredients contain soy sauce, pear puree, onion, garlic, apple puree, sugar, cornstarch, guar gum, soy protein, rice flour, wheat gluten, and soybean oil.

How do you prepare Trader Joe’s Korean Beefless Bulgogi?

To prepare, you can heat the frozen vegan meat in the microwave, on the stovetop, in an oven, or in an air fryer. I oped for the stove top, and the Bulgogi took just a few minutes until it was tender and had a nice sear on it.

What Does Trader Joe’s Beefless Bulgogi Taste Like?

When cooked, Trader Joe’s Korean Beefless Bulgogi has a pleasant, smokey, mild flavor with a hint of sweetness. The meat alternative provides a nice, realistic, chewy beef texture, heats up well, and holds sauce nicely. Personally, I think the Bulgogi tastes best when you give the strips enough time to get a sear on them, which only adds to how well the product stacks up to real beef.

Although I cannot speak to its authenticity as I haven’t had traditional Bulgogi in years, this Beefless Bulgogi is delicious, well-seasoned, and harmoniously balances sweet and savory flavors. The one thing I believe this product would benefit from is coming with a pre-made Bulgogi sauce, as the item only contains the frozen meat alternative.

When paired alongside rice and topped with green onions, this new Trader Joe’s vegan item is a great quick lunch or dinner option, and because it contains three servings, it’s an awesome, affordable option for families at just $1.50 per serving, just be sure to make a pot of rice for the side.

I would recommend picking this item up during your next trip to Trader Joe’s. Be sure to also grab some of our all-time top vegan product picks at the cult-favorite grocer.

You probably already know that Trader Joe’s is one of the best places to shop for vegan food, including their own brand of meat and dairy alternatives. We have conducted several vegan taste tests that prove Trader Joe’s is a great plant-based resource, and nearly every week the cult-favorite retailer reinforces this reputation with the launch of a new vegan product. This year alone, Trader Joe’s has debuted Vegan Nacho Dip, Vegan Spinach & Cashew Ravioli, Vegan Buffalo Dip, and Non-Dairy Oat Milk Ice Cream Sandwiches.

This week, the newest dairy-free launch at Trader Joe’s is their new Vegan Sour Cream Alternative. While Tofutti’s Better Than Sour Cream is one of the most well-known dairy-free sour creams on the market, TJ’s is looking to disrupt the vegan sour cream space with its own plant-based version, following closely on the heels of bringing out its newest reformulation of vegan cream cheese.

What Ingredients Are in Trader Joe’s Vegan Sour Cream Alternative?

Trader Joe’s Vegan Sour Cream Alternative features a coconut oil base, and is made with corn and potato starch, white vinegar, and carob gum.

A serving of Trader Joe’s Vegan Sour Cream Alternative contains:

  • 60 calories
  • 5 grams of fat
  • 4.5 grams of saturated fat (23 percent of the recommended daily value)
  • 55 mg of sodium

The Vegan Sour Cream at Trader Joe’s sells for $3.49 for a 12-ounce container which contains about 12 one-ounce servings.

How Does Trader Joe’s Vegan Sour Cream Alternative Taste?

The coconut oil makes for an incredibly rich texture. While traditional dairy sour creams are often a bit watery, this vegan alternative retains its shape and is richer than the classic condiment.

After my first taste, I was surprised that this wasn’t a tofu-based sour cream. To me, the Trader Joe’s Vegan Sour Cream Alternative has a tofu-like flavor, similar to the Tofutti product , which is incredibly rich, and works well when mixed into dishes or served as a condiment, such as a dollop over some vegetarian chili.

On its own, this TJ’s vegan sour cream has an uninspiring and lingering after-taste that is slightly bitter, rather than tangy as the original dairy is. But when I added it to my Black Bean and Corn Salad, the Trader Joe’s Vegan Sour Cream Alternative mixed in delightfully and provided a creamy boost, and I barely noticed the aftertaste.

It should be noted that although the taste of the TJ Vegan Sour Cream Alternative isn’t my absolute favorite, it still ranks high in terms of all of the vegan sour creams that I’ve sampled.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this Trader Joe’s Vegan Sour Cream Alternative, provided it isn’t the star of your recipe. Because of its high coconut content, it isn’t the most heart-healthy option, since it’s relatively high in saturated fat, but then again, if you’re reaching for a sour cream alternative, you’re probably not seeking a health food.

Where Can I Buy Trader Joe’s Vegan Sour Cream?

Because it’s a new product, TJ’s Vegan Sour Cream is slowly trickling into locations nationwide. While there’s a good chance that your neighborhood Trader Joe’s will have it, it’s always a good idea to call ahead and check first. In the store, it will be located in the refrigerated section with the other dairy sour creams.

Fast-food restaurants have finally got the memo that their customer base isn’t just coming through for a burger, fried chicken, or a beef taco. Many now have plant-based foods and are coming up with creative, delicious ways to get more greens on the menu. Here are the 6 best fast-food chains with plant-based options on the menu.

1. Burger King

Burger King

Turns out there’s a lot more to rely on than a salad if you’re eating plant-based. Burger King has the Impossible Whopper featuring a meatless patty as well as a few secretly vegan options such as the French Toast Sticks and Hashbrowns.

2. White Castle

Taco Bell

Known for its mini square-shaped sliders, this hamburger chain jumped on the plant-based bandwagon at some participating locations. You can find an Impossible Slider on some White Castle menus.

3. Del Taco

Taco Bell

This was the first national Mexican fast-food chain to offer Beyond Meat at the company’s 580 restaurants across the country. Del Taco has the Beyond Avocado Taco on the menu along with the Epic Beyond Original Mex Burrito and Avocado Veggie Bowl.

4. Carl’s Jr.

Taco Bell

Another brand synonymous with beef burgers, Carl’s Jr. offers several plant-based options for veggie and plant lover such as Beyond Famous Star Burger and Guacamole Thickburger.

5. Taco Bell

Taco Bell

This fast-food restaurant may have been one of the first you frequented while transitioning to plant-based eating. That’s because Taco Bell has eight million vegetarian combinations and sells 350 million vegetarian items a year through menu substitutions or ordering off their vegetarian menu. In fact, they were the first quick-service restaurant to offer American Vegetarian Association (AVA) certified food options.

6. Starbucks

Starbucks

From the time it started offering breakfast sandwiches in 2006, the coffee conglomerate became a competitor in the fast-food space. You can get your favorite hot and cold beverages made with almond, coconut or oat milk but there are also plant-based food options available such as the Baja Black Bean Veggie Wrap, bagel with vegan cream cheese and Impossible Breakfast Sandwich.

Trader Joe’s is a paradise for vegan eaters: While you might not immediately think of it as a go-to for dairy-free and meatless groceries, the retailer continues to release 100 percent animal product-free options of your favorite foods year after year, some of which have earned the Trader Joe brand a cult-like-following from vegans: There’s even a Vegan Trader Joe’s Facebook page that’s amassed over 39,000 followers aimed at helping users keep up with the latest product releases and reviews.

If you’re lucky enough to have a TJ’s near your home (check their store directory here) pick up a few of these 17 items the next time you shop, which won’t disappoint you, by taste or price. To get a better idea of the sheer volume of vegan or vegan-izable foods the store has to offer, check out @TraderJoesGoesVegan, an Instagram account dedicated to chronicling all of the grocery chain’s meat and dairy-free products.

The Best Vegan Products at Trader Joe’s

1. Vegan Nacho Dip

This dairy-free Vegan Nacho Dip is deliciously creamy and super versatile: Slather it on crackers, heat it up and make nachos with it, or use it to dunk veggies in; any way you spin it, this nacho is delicious. In my opinion, it’s best served hot since it retains a thicker texture when cold. Heat it up and add jalapenos for a chip dip or add some to your pasta for a cheesy, spicy boost.

2. Thai Tea or Mango Mini Mochi

If you’re a fan of mochi but haven’t been able to locate a non-dairy version, TJ’s is here to help! Trader Joe’s mini mochi comes in a delicious Thai Tea flavor that anyone who loves the traditional drink will adore, as well as in a Mango flavor if fruity is more your thing. Before you opt for the mango flavor know that the “ice cream” is almost certainly a sorbet. Instead of a creamy texture like Thai tea, it’s a tangy solid.

3. Vegan Spinach & Cashew Ravioli

Hearty and earthy, the cashew filling in these Vegan Spinach & Cashew Raviolis does a great job of mimicking parmesan or ricotta. The flavorful filling leaves no need for a sauce, and with just a few shakes of onion salt and nutritional yeast on top, these pasta pockets were already a perfect, easy meal.

Preparation couldn’t be easier: All that’s required of these ravioli is to pop them in boiling water for a few minutes and in virtually no time, at all, you have a delicious dinner!

4. Yellow Jackfruit Curry with Jasmine Rice

Easy, microwavable vegan meals are hard to come by, and the market is even more sparse when it comes to delicious ones. Thankfully, Trader Joe’s Yellow Jackfruit Curry with Jasmine Rice is delectable and ready in minutes. The dish features tender jackfruit that mimics the texture of shredded chicken and a spicy curry sauce that complements the veggies and rice. Pick up a couple and keep them in your freezer for lazy dinners.

5. Dark Chocolate Sunflower Seed Butter Cups

If you love Justin’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups but are looking for a slightly more affordable option, TJ’s Dark Chocolate Sunflower Seed Butter Cups are equally as delicious and ring in at only 99 cents per pack. They are free from gluten, soy, dairy, and tree nuts, and are a great alternative for anyone who is allergic to peanuts. Pop yours in the freezer for a cold treat.

6. Jumbo Cinnamon Rolls

These delightfully oversized cinnamon rolls were likely not intended to be vegan, but in a happy accident, they contain no animal products (but are processed on the same equipment that processes milk, so beware if you are a strict vegan or have allergies). They’re generously slathered in cinnamon “butter” that you won’t be able to tell is dairy-free, and all of your non-vegan friends will love this classic dessert (or breakfast if you’re feeling wild).

7. Chicken-less Mandarin Orange Morsels

These “chicken-less” morsels are a holy grail vegan Trader Joe’s item: The “chicken” texture is unbelievably realistic and the orange sauce is tangy and delicious. Throw a bag in the air fryer, add some rice and a side of veggies, and generously cover in the mandarin orange sauce for an easy, delectable meal.

8. Hold the Dairy! Vegan Chocolate Mini Cones

These mini coconut-based ice cream cones are the perfect treat to stash in your freezer. The box’s easy-open compartment makes any time dessert time – just unwrap a tiny cone or two and delight in the chocolatey flavors you know and love, totally dairy-free.

9. Popcorn with Herbs and Spices

This popcorn is seasoned with a yummy blend of spices for a savory lo-cal treat. Zesty and salty, it’s flavored with onion, celery seed,s and nutritional yeast for a cheesy tang. Be careful, as this addicting treat goes fast, so make sure you’re watching your portions if you’re trying to be conscious of your snacking. Otherwise, grab two bags and a friend and sit on your couch, cheers your bags, and don’t stop eating until you finish the whole thing.

10. Thai Vegetable Gyoza

Thai vegetable gyozas are one of the best deals TJ’s has to offer: These sizable dumplings come in a bag of 15 and ring up well under five bucks. Steam them, pan fry them or add them to some miso broth, these veggie potstickers are perfect for when you’re craving takeout but don’t want the wait or the price tag. Try their new Chili Onion Crunch dipping sauce for a spicy kick, or their Gyoza Dipping Sauce for a savory complement to the dumplings.

11. Organic Baked Tofu

Pre-baked tofu is a secret to vegan success: Not having to take the time to drain, press, and cook tofu will make your life exponentially easier. Slice this seasoned tofu – available in Teriyaki and Sriracha flavors – up in strips and add it to any stir fry, sandwich, or serve over rice. Although the uncooked packages of tofu are generally cheaper than the baked ones, it’s well worth it to pay an extra dollar or two more and save some time.

12. Fully Cooked Falafel Ready to Heat and Eat

For a quick and delicious dose of protein, these pre-made falafels are just as the name implies: ready to heat and eat! They’re perfect to add to a pita pocket, rice dish, or salad. Just toss it into your air fryer or oven and enjoy!

13. Kale, Cashew and Basil Pesto

Finding a tasty pre-made pesto with no parmesan cheese or milk products can be a challenge, but, as usual, Trader Joe’s rises to the occasion. Plus, their version of pesto packs in the kale, sneaking more nutrients in than traditional recipes. Did we mention it’s good as hell? It’s not overly salted, like some premade options, so you can feel free to add some of your own seasoning or mix-ins such as sun-dried tomatoes or pine nuts.

14. Soy Creamy Cherry Chocolate Chip Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

This fan-favorite ice cream is here to stay! Pulled from stores in early 2019, TJ’s customers let the company know they weren’t giving up on their favorite frozen treat without a fight, and the grocer listened, promising they would never again disappear from shelves. Just as creamy as the name implies, this “ice cream” is full of generous chocolate hunks and bites of real cherries.

15. Rice Cracker Medley

Great as a vegan option for entertaining, this bag is filled with different varieties of rice crackers that are flavored with wasabi, seaweed, and hints of chili. If you’re looking for a crunchy, quick snack to grab, the resealable seal on these rice crackers keeps your crunches extra crunchable.

16. Cauliflower Gnocchi

These supple pasta pillows are made from cauliflower, for a dinner option that’s lower in carbs than the traditional dish, and free of dairy and gluten. Crisp these up on the stovetop or air fryer or boil them for a softer texture. While you’re at it, add some Kale, Cashew, and Basil Pesto and some of TJ’s Non-dairy shredded ‘Mozzarella’ cheese.

17. Vegan Buffalo-Style Dip

Give this cauliflower- and pepita-based Vegan Buffalo-Style Dip which replicates the taste of buffalo chicken dip nearly perfectly a try. It’s delicious to dunk chips and chopped veggies into but would also fare as an amazing sandwich spread or a great mayonnaise replacer in recipes like chickpea “tuna” salad.

Trader Joe’s is constantly elevating its plant-based portfolio, breaking ground in untapped food categories including vegan seafood, soups, and especially dessert. The grocery store houses some of the most exciting, inventive vegan desserts on the market. Now, Trader Joe’s is adding to this already impressive collection with its new Vanilla Oat Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Sandwiches.

“Each sandwich is made with sweetened, vanilla-flavored, frozen oat beverage that’s nestled between two sumptuously soft chocolate wafer cookies to deliver that satisfying, long-day-salvaging sensation with every bite,” Trader Joe’s describes the new oat milk-based ice cream sandwich.

The new dairy-free dessert contains 330 calories per serving, which is two sandwiches, meaning each single vegan ice cream sandwich has 165 calories. The product package comes with six sandwiches and rings in at $3.49 per box, according to vegan watchdog Instagram account @BigBoxVegan who spotted the treat at a local Trader Joe’s.

The vegan sandwiches use an oat base supplemented by pea protein, cane sugar, coconut oil, and natural flavors to create creamy dairy-free ice cream. The plant-based ice cream is then sandwiched between two vegan chocolate wafers made from brown rice syrup and soybeans. The delicious vegan dessert replicates classic ice cream sandwich brands including Blue Bunny and Good Humor without any animal products.

Now more than ever, customers want vegan ice cream as dairy falls farther out of favor. The global vegan ice cream market was valued at $520 million in 2019 and is expected to surpass $805 million by 2027. Another study found that North America dominated the sale of dairy-free ice cream, carving out 38.4 percent of the vegan ice cream market. The report found that alongside Trader Joe’s, Unilever, General Mills, Tofuffuti, and Van Leeuwen rank as the biggest market players.

Trader Joe’s Vegan Development

Trader Joe’s is constantly expanding its vegan product selection. The beloved grocery store stocks its shelves with vegan foods and pre-made meals fit for any palette and any meal of the day. Alongside the new oat milk ice cream sandwiches, the company recently released Hold the Dairy! Mini Coconut Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Cones. The bite-sized ice cream cones feature a vegan ice cream blended with coconut milk and chocolate on top of a plant-based waffle cone coated in chocolate.

The company has doubled its plant-based efforts following an episode of the “Inside Trader Joe’s” podcast where company executives revealed that Trader Joe’s has big vegan plans in development. Alongside the dairy-free mini cones, Trader Joe’s released five new items including Vegan Meatless Meat Eater’s Pizza, Vegan Cream Cheese Alternative, Organic Coconut & Avocado Oil Vegan Ghee Blend, Organic Vegetarian Chili, and a Tofu Scramble with Soy Chorizo.

Trader Joe’s also explored oat-based desserts once previously, introducing a Chocolate Fudge Oat Bar last summer. The vegan fudgesicles recreated a classic summertime dessert with absolutely no dairy or gluten ingredients. Since then, the company has been developing more vegan dessert options including Vegan Cookies & Creme Vanilla Bean Bon Bons and Non-Dairy Mint & Chip Bon Bons.

The Ultimate Vegan and Dairy-Free Ice Cream Taste Test

Van Leeuwen Vegan Mint Chip Ice Cream

This brand is one of the best anywhere and their vegan choices are no different. The mint chip went the distance in our “food duels” to come out on top in the final five. We loved the fact it tasted like the real thing. One note: It’s higher in fat than most other formulas.

So Delicious Dairy-Free Oh-So Strawberry Coconut Milk Frozen Dessert

We have never seen kids go as crazy for ice cream as these testers did for this tub of strawberry. It literally was met with chants and screams that it tasted like “real strawberry.” If you, too, love strawberry, this treat is for you. Even if you don’t, we think it’s worth a taste.

Ben & Jerry’s Cinnamon Buns Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

If you love cinnamon, meet your new favorite treat. It’s like if a cookie dough ball met a cinnamon bun. If you’re carb-conscious, note there are 35 grams in a half-cup serving, and 25 grams of sugar.

Halo Top Dairy-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

Halo Top is the best pick for a health-conscious cookie-dough loving ice cream seeker. A serving (half a cup) has 90 calories and 3 grams of protein so if you want the fun of a sweet cold treat with fewer cals, this is your best option. That said, the texture is smooth, so if you’re looking for chunks of cookie dough this isn’t the right pick for you.

Oatly Chocolate Ice Cream

Oatly does it again. First, they claimed the high road with their oat milk that took the nation by storm this past summer. Now they’ve introduced oat milk ice cream that—we swear—is as delish as the classic, and offers seven classic flavors including chocolate, vanilla, salty caramel, strawberry, and hazelnut. We tasted four and loved them all. With 218 calories for a 2/3 cup serving, 23 grams of carbs and 13 grams of fat, this treat is right in the middle of the pack, health-wise. But you’ll love every spoonful.

Koku Moringa Mint Chip

We loved the mint taste and if you like a thinner texture, here’s your pick. It tastes like frozen yogurt and on a hot day that makes for a refreshing change from the creamier options. This version has half the fat and sugar of other mint chip varieties we reviewed.

Halo Top Dairy-Free Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream

Halo Top is super smooth (no need to microwave it right out of the freezer—you can just dig in with your spoon). Our testers loved the milkshake-like quality but there were no chunks of peanut butter cup to be found. Still, with 3 grams of protein and 4 grams of fat, this is among the less-indulgent choices.

365 Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Swirl Frozen Non-Dairy Almond Milk Dessert

This tasted like Moose Tracks, with chunks of chocolate chips and peanut butter swirls in it. We love that it boasts 5 grams of protein, but it also has 20 grams of sugar and 28 grams of carbs.

Van Leeuwen Vegan Peanut Butter Choc Chip Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

This is one of the richest of the bunch, and Van Leeuwen always over-delivers on its promise of taste and texture. The zingy peanut buttery aftertaste means just a little will leave you super satisfied, which is good as it packs a punch in carbs, sugar and fat.

Häagen-Dazs Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge Non-Dairy

This top-five winner was the most like the real thing, and everyone went crazy for it. The chunks of fudge were epic. It’s slightly higher in cals than most other picks, but it also contains 6 grams of protein.

So Delicious Creamy Chocolate Cashewmilk Frozen Dessert

If what you love is a classic chocolate ice cream taste, this delivers. It is creamy and rich, and anyone avoiding coconut milk will appreciate the cashew milk option. Still, with 23 grams of carbs and 21 grams of sugar per 2/3 cup serving, we would limit our consumption to 1/3 a pint at a time.

So Delicious Dairy-Free Chocolate Coconut Milk Frozen Dessertge Template

For chocolate lovers, this is a great choice because it tastes like real ice cream and will satisfy your cravings. But if you’re keeping an eye on saturated fat, this one is on the high end with 10 grams. Still, So Delicious has cracked the code on how to make a plant-based non-dairy ice cream that is …so delicious!

Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

Cookie dough is a specific kind of treat that’s like Kryptonite for some people. We are those people. Ben & Jerry’s has figured out not only how to make non-dairy ice cream taste like it’s creamy dairy counterpart, but the cookie dough does, too. How do they do it? We don’t care, we just want more. Caveat: One pint has 1050 calories, and a serving according to the label is 1/3 of a pint. With 49 grams of carbs per serving, proceed with caution.

NadaMoo! Dairy-Free Frozen Dessert, Birthday Cake Cookie Dough

Sometimes you think you don’t love something but you just keep eating it. That was the experience with NadaMoo! Dairy-Free Birthday Cake Cookie Dough. It went fast. Even when some of the testers claimed it wasn’t their favorite, they kept digging in for more. We say: Do you.

Koku Dark Cacao With Reishi Ice Cream

This one was so dark and rich it almost tasted like there was a cherry aftertaste. For dark chocolate lovers, this is the closest thing you’ll get to a dark chocolate bar taste in ice cream. The coconut cream base adds a higher saturated fat content, but it’s lower in sugar than other options on our list at only 9 grams.

NadaMoo! Dairy-Free Frozen Dessert, Dutch Chocolate

This chocolate treat has the least calories per serving of any that we tested, but still delivered all of the taste you’re sure to want from chocolate ice cream. It had a mousse quality that made it fluffy and light. We love the fact that this family-owned company has been creating non-dairy treats for over 15 years and growing strong. Yesamooooo.

So Delicious Oatmilk Oatmeal Cookie Ice Cream

This one had actual pieces of oatmeal cookie in it, and we watched the testers go completely bananas for it. The ice cream tasted like the real thing and the cookies were legit home-made quality. How they do this we don’t know but if you love oatmeal cookies, you will love this flavor. Nutrition-wise, this option is higher in fat, carbs and sugar plus contains palm oil.

Halo Top Dairy-Free Oatmeal Cookie

Halo Top deserves kudos for trying to be the healthier choice among non-dairy treats, and we love the overall taste. But if you are looking for a chunky cookie filled ice cream, this isn’t the choice for you. It’s more like a frozen smoothie with an oatmeal cookie vibe. With just 70 calories and 3 grams of fat in half a cup, this is a great choice if you’re watching your intake.

Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle Non-Dairy

If you love salty-sweet mash-ups, this is the one for you. But if you’re not into salt—skip this. Haagen-Dazs knows what it’s doing—and their dairy-free ice creams are as craveable as the classics. Don’t worry about serving to non-vegans; they won’t have a clue this is plant-based.

NadaMoo! Dairy-Free Frozen Dessert, Rockiest Road

If you like rocky road this will give you the fix you need. Our taste-testers loved the marshmallow sugary sweetness and rocky texture, but ultimately it didn’t make our top five, which was a mystery to one tester who basically devoured the entire pint. That goes to show—every flavor has its fans. Lower in calories per serving sugar and carbs, so pls enjoy!

So Delicious Peachy Maple Pecan Cashewmilk Frozen Dessert

Maple is a specific taste and if you love maple syrup, reach for this fun treat. The testers all seemed to think it was *too* maple syrup-y but we found this to be a fun diversion from the usual suspects.

So Delicious Snickerdoodle Cashewmilk Frozen Dessert

This tastes like a gooey cinnamon roll (swoon) and was one of the favorites of all the ones we tasted. Made of cashew milk, this one is relatively lower in saturated fat (6 grams) and has 3 grams of protein per serving, but is slightly higher in carbs, at 34 grams.

Van Leeuwen Vegan Chocolate Ice Cream

The taste is a chocolate lover’s delight and as with all Van Leeuwen Ice Creams, it is a rich, satisfying treat. We took points off for being higher in saturated fat, but we love that it has 3 grams of fiber.

Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

Somehow they have mastered the art of creating non-dairy ice cream that tastes like the real thing. We love Ben & Jerry’s flavors and their chocolate-y fudge brownie was a delight in particular. But for health, we took points off for the 27 grams of added sugar (over half your daily value) per serving.

Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Half Baked Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

We don’t blame anyone who wants to eat the whole pint—it’s that good! This Ben & Jerry’s flavor was among the top five overall winners of our entire plant-based ice cream taste test. It’s so intense it’s like eating half-baked brownies and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups coated in ice cream; AKA all our favorite flavors rolled together. Each serving has 43 grams of carbs and 28 grams of added sugar (that’s 9 teaspoons!).

So Delicious Mint Chip Coconutmilk Frozen Desert

If you love mint, this treat delivers a satisfying fix. Our testers liked the fact that it was less thick in texture than some of the other ice creams we tasted, and on a hot day, it can feel refreshingly light and sweet without the heavy taste of some of the creamier choices.

NadaMoo! Dairy-Free Frozen Dessert, Lotta Mint Chip

We love NadaMoo! for going after the vegan market and coming out with a respectable mint chip treat with half the added sugars and carbs of some of their competitors. With 200 calories in a 2/3 cup and 6 grams of added sugar per serving, this is definitely among the healthiest of the treats. Enjoy!

So Delicious Dairy-Free Vanilla Bean Coconut Milk Frozen Dessert

When the vanilla bean in this dessert kicks in, you don’t feel like you need any toppings or other flavors to enhance your satisfaction—it’s rich and full all on its own. That said, if you added a topping to it, non-vegans would never tell the difference. We took slight points off for the added sugar at 18 grams per serving, but it still comes in at a respectable 200 calories per serving.

So Delicious Cookies ‘n’ Cream Almondmilk Frozen Dessert

We loved the texture of this one which was like putting Oreo cookies in a blender with vanilla ice cream and freezing it up. The cookie taste infuses the entire ice cream so if you are an Oreo fan, this is your jam. Points off for high sugar (21 grams) but otherwise, this is a winning treat.

So Delicious Cookie Dough Coconutmilk Frozen Dessert

This was as sweet a treat as you could find, and the kids loved it. They enjoyed the chunks of cookie dough in the coconut milk and the ice cream base was thinner than some we tested—a nice counter touch to the rich, thick cookie dough. A bit high in carbs, fat and saturated fat, so if you’re counting, keep an eye on your portion.

Van Leeuwen Vegan Choc Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream

We’re officially fans of every non-dairy dessert that Brooklyn-based Van Leeuwen makes—choc chip cookie dough is no exception. Rich and creamy, the raw cashew milk, coconut cream and cocoa butter base is to live for and makes for a truly decadent dessert.

Oatly Strawberry Ice Cream

Oatly has its act together, and this ice cream proves it. The newcomer to the freezer nudges aside some of the long-time favorites with its oat milk ice cream that tastes as good as—or better than—the real thing. We love the packaging, flavor, and attitude of this brand. It’s a rich treat and anyone who loves strawberry will not be disappointed. Even non-strawberry lovers will be converted. One serving has 20 grams of sugar, but also 1.5 grams of fiber and a small amount of protein.

Trader Joe’s latest products are typically announced only after they’ve been snuck onto store shelves and spotted by lucky customers, but this month, thanks to insider info, consumers can plan a trip to the retailer knowing that 10 new vegan products are about to land at TJ’s across the country starting this week.

The grocery store chain will be debuting a selection of fall-inspired vegan products including pumpkin hummus, pumpkin cashew yogurt, pumpkin overnight oats, and pumpkin oat milk. Alongside the pumpkin-flavored plant-based items, the company is also introduced a sour gummy package in the shapes of cats and bats for its Halloween special.

The fall item debut news comes from Instagrammer Big Box Vegan, known for sharing insider product information about plant-based products in American retailers.

The autumnal products will also be accompanied by new products which feature oat milk, including vegan chocolate bars and vegan eggnog for the winter season. These new products join Trader Joe’s’ growing list of vegan products as the company continues developing new products across all food categories.

While Trader Joe’s has recently focused on developing its own store brand plant-based products, the grocery company will begin offering products from Barebells and Boursin. Soon, customers will be able to purchase two new flavors of Barebells’ protein bars: Hazelnut Nougat and Salty Peanut. These two protein bars will be the first plant-based Barebells products to debut stateside. The protein bars each contain 15 grams of protein and no sugar.

Trader Joe’s will also debut the Boursin Dairy-Free cheese spread, marking one of the first times a brick-and-mortar retailer will feature the product. The dairy-free spread is a plant-based take on the brand’s signature Garlic & Herbs cheese spread flavor. Boursin teamed up with the vegan giant Follow Your Heart to develop the plant-based cheese spread alternative.

Earlier this year, Trader Joe’s executives discussed the future of plant-based for the company, claiming that it planned to expand its offerings across all food categories in the coming year. During the chain’s podcast “Inside Trader Joe’s,” Director of Deli, Frozen Meat, Seafood, Meatless, and Fresh Beverage at Trader Joe’s Amy Gaston Morales announced that the company would be looking into more plant-based products.

Since then, the company has released several plant-based entrees including the Vegan Enchilada Casserole and the Vegan Meatless Meat Eaters Pizza. Trader Joe’s continues to develop new products to fit any meal from dinner to breakfast. In August, the company debuted a Tofu Scramble with Soy Chorizo, providing consumers with a completely vegan alternative for breakfast.

While Gaston-Morales announced that the company would focus on seafood alternatives, the company has been developing and releasing several meat alternatives over recent years. From the soy chorizo to the vegan sausages feature on the Vegan Meatless Meat Pizza, Trader Joe’s has increased its plant-based protein offerings significantly. Earlier this year, the company released a Vegan Pasta Bolognese meal that incorporated its plant-based protein into a flavorful red sauce. The frozen meal uses the Vegan Bolognese Style Pasta Sauce also released this year.

“We’re lucky to live in a time of pronounced proliferation of plant-based proteins,” the company described the frozen meal. “Nowadays, even dishes that are more or less defined by their meatiness are available in vegan form without sacrificing any of their signature texture or savory flavor.”

Trader Joe’s is rapidly elevating its plant-based offerings, stacking its shelves across all its locations with fresh, innovative vegan foods. Over recent years, the grocery company has accelerated its plant-based development, working across all food categories to bring consumers plant-based alternatives that don’t make customers sacrifice their Trader Joe’s favorites.

Trader Joe’s executives discussed that the company plans to increase its vegan offerings in every category during an episode of its podcast “Inside Trader Joe’s,” and the company has not failed its promise. From its vegan bolognese to its new Vegan Enchilada Casserole, the grocery chain is not slowing down its vegan production and distribution. Throughout August, Trader Joe’s shoppers have already found six new specialty vegan foods.

1. Vegan Meatless Meat Eater’s Pizza

This week, the national grocery chain just released a new meat lover’s pizza with three plant-based proteins and Trader Joe’s dairy-free cheese. The Vegan Meatless Meat Eater’s Pizza will be topped with plant-based pepperoni, Italian sausage crumbles, and vegan chorizo crumbles. The three proteins will be accompanied by vegan mozzarella shreds.

The new vegan pizza follows the company’s vegan cheese launch that occurred last summer. The brand revealed two cashew-based dairy-free cheeses with the Cheddar Style Slices and the Mozzarella Style Shreds (priced at $3.99 per 7-ounce package). The plant-based chorizo and Italian Sausage have been seen before in other vegan iterations of Trader Joe’s products, but this is the inaugural product for the chain’s new vegan pepperoni.

The Vegan Meatless Meat Eater’s Pizza is available at $5.99 per pie. The nutritional label states that the vegan pizza provides three servings.

2. Vegan Cream Cheese Alternative

For bagel lovers, Trader Joe’s just rolled out a new version of its dairy-free spread for plant-based consumers. The new Vegan Cream Cheese alternative presents a dairy-less option for the morning breakfast. The product blends soy protein, sunflower, oil, and coconut oil to create easily spreadable cream cheese. This option is the newest iteration of the company’s previous vegan cream cheese, and reportedly the firmest version so far.

The Vegan Cream Cheese alternative can be purchased across all Trader Joe’s locations nationwide for $2.99 per 8-ounce container. The vegan cream cheese product is one of the most affordable on the market, making it an extremely desirable addition to the grocery chain’s plant-based line.

3. Organic Coconut & Avocado Oil Vegan Ghee Blend

Trader Joe’s just revealed its first vegan ghee alternative, aiming to help home cooks leave behind dairy-based cooking ingredients. The Organic Coconut & Avocado Oil Blend Vegan Ghee Alternative combines avocado and coconut oils to produce a thick ghee-like product that will work to make a variety of Indian recipes vegan when calling for ghee.

Consumers can find the ghee alternative on the shelves starting at $4.99 per 8 fluid ounce container. Some consumers suggest using the ghee to spread on a piece of toast or saute veggies. This marks the first time Trader Joe’s has produced a vegan ghee.

4. Mini Coconut Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Cones

Trader Joe’s took over the dessert department with its Hold The Dairy! non-dairy ice cream cones. The new vegan dessert product is a plant-based twist on the store’s popular Hold the Cone! mini ice cream cones. The new ice cream cones remove all dairy from the ice cream and the chocolate coating to bring consumers a completely plant-based dessert option.

“The cone is crunchy, the dessert is creamy, and the whole vegan mini-cone experience is a big deal… especially when you’re eating dairy-free,” Trader Joe’s describes the new item.

The new Mini Coconut Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Cones feature a waffle cone with coconut milk-based ice cream. The waffle cone is coated with chocolate on the inside and then filled with chocolate-chocolate ice cream. The 12 mini cones can be purchased for $3.99 per package.

5. Organic Vegetarian Chili

The grocery chain also released a new version of its Organic Vegetarian Chili. Complete with red beans and onion, the Vegetarian Chili is protein-packed at 13 grams per container. The ingredient list in full contains red beans, tomato paste, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, and onions, coming together to make the delicious plant-based version of Trader Joe’s canned chili.

Purchase the 14-ounce can of comfort food at any Trader Joe’s location for $2.29. This is the second iteration of the plant-based chili, promised to be packed with more nutrients and flavor than the initial version.

6. Tofu Scramble with Soy Chorizo

Instagrammer @bigboxvegan spotted a new Trader Joe’s Vegan Tofu Scramble with Soy Chorizo. The premade stir fry breakfast combines several of Trader Joe’s signature products including its tofu and plant-based chorizo alternative. The new product was initially spotted in Tustin, CA, but should be available at all Trader Joe’s locations within the month.

The Tofu Scramble can be found for $3.99 per 10-ounce package. The blend of spices, crumbled tofu, and soy chorizo makes for a complete, protein-rich breakfast that easily serves two people. Trader Joe’s Soy Chorizo contains a delicious blend of paprika, sea salt, vinegar, red pepper, and garlic powder to bring the traditional taste of the classic Spanish sausage. The company’s website suggests that customers “make a quick breakfast burrito. Or saute it with oven-roasted potato wedges for an intriguing brunch time side dish that will have your guests raving.”

Trader Joe’s continues to roll out more plant-based products, now debuting its new vegan pork rinds and dairy-free enchilada casseroles. The two plant-based products come at the end of a rapidly growing list of plant-based offerings from the grocery chain. Trader Joe’s has become known for releasing its plant-based products without announcement, sneaking new vegan treats and meals across the store for people to find.

The company introduced the new Spicy Porkless Snack Rings to mirror conventional cracklins without using any pork products. The vegan cracklins hold all the desired flavors, seasoned with onion, salt, paprika, cayenne, habanero, and garlic. The vegan rinds are made from rice meal, pea flour, and pea protein used to emulate the typically pig-based crunchy snack.

“Whether you know them as cracklins, scratchings, or perhaps even chicharrones, pork rinds are a plenty popular snack,” the company described the new snack. “So popular, in fact, that we saw no reason for the plant-based-product-preferring population not to partake. Some folks purported that perfecting a ‘porkless pork rind’ wasn’t possible – particularly if we planned to keep the price low. ‘When pigs fly!’ they said. But, lo and behold, Trader Joe’s Spicy Porkless Plant-Based Snack Rinds are as crispy, crunchy, salty, and satisfying as the real deal.”

Trader Joe’s is also releasing several quick-to-make meals to keep up with consumer demand, including the company’s newest Vegan Enchilada Casserole. The vegan enchilada contains pinto beans, roasted vegetables, red chile sauce, and a blend of vegan mozzarella and cheddar. The dairy-free cheesy enchilada meal gives plant-based customers a chance to enjoy a quick, easy Mexcian food favorite.

Recently, Trader Joe’s also released a Vegan Pasta Bolognese that featured a plant-based protein in the flavorful red sauce over lentil-based pasta. The frozen meal came immediately after the company released a jarred version of the sauce for its customers to enjoy with the Vegan Bolognese Style Pasta Sauce.

“We’re lucky to live in a time of pronounced proliferation of plant-based proteins,” the company described the frozen meal. “Nowadays, even dishes that are more or less defined by their meatiness are available in vegan form without sacrificing any of their signature texture or savory flavor.”

Trader Joe’s continues to develop plant-based products for its rapidly rising vegan customer base. The company has released several plant-based frozen meals beyond the Vegan Bolognese Meal. Trader Joe’s executives announced that the company has multiple new food items on the way. The company aims to keep up with the growing demand for vegan foods.

The grocery store chain has already enhanced its dairy-free dessert offering over recent years. Trader Joe’s now provides customers with a wide selection of vegan desserts including a chocolate bar made with the company’s Almond Beverage, Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars, Non-Dairy Mint & Chip Bon Bons, and Vegan Cookies & Creme Vanilla Bean Bon Bons.

With a growing plant-based protein market, Trader Joe’s has managed to introduce products in almost every category. The chain’s development branch announced that the company is working to tackle the final plant-based meat substitute with new plant-based seafood,(Link) promising to bring the new products to shelves in upcoming months.

Trader Joe’s is doing everything in its power to make sure all plant-based eaters have the best meatless, dairy-free products to eat while staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2020 alone, the retailer has released two different plant-based patties, two new flavors of creamy almond yogurt, vegan mac n’ cheese, caesar dressing and dairy-free oat milk ice cream. Now, they’re looking to bring some after-dinner joy to customers with the launch of a new vegan treat, aptly named the Cheese-less “Cheesecake.”

This dairy-free dessert comes in a pack of two 4.2 ounce mini “cheesecakes,” retails for $3.99 and can be found in the frozen aisle. The filling is coconut and lima-bean-based with a graham cracker crust, and many of the first people to get their hands on it have said that the lima bean filling did a shockingly good job of recreating the creaminess we all love in traditional cheesecake without having too much of an overt lima bean taste.

Originally posted in the Facebook group Vegan Trader Joe’s which boasts over 32,000 members dedicated to chronicling and reviewing new vegan TJ’s products, user Noella Williams was the first to spot the cold treat. She said that she enjoyed hers topped with chocolate syrup and chocolate chips and that the classic treat was “exactly what I’m looking for in a plant-based cheesecake.”

Look out for this new “cheese-less” dessert at your local Trader Joe’s, and be sure to check out our guide to the best vegan TJ’s products before you make your next trip.
