Plant Yourself: Boasting Sinful Southern Eats, the mother and son duo behind Dirty Lettuce give soul food a new meaning. From upscale plant-based bars to comfort food-focused diners, you’re sure to find the meal of your dreams here. Here are the best restaurants to eat vegan or plant-based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

1. Vedge

Calling all: Foodies — vegan or not, a dinner at Vedge is life-changing. Founded in 2011 by James Beard-nominated Chefs Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby, it’s the perfect spot to grab a meal with friends and family or to end a long day of exploring the city. It’s any vegan’s dream — and a spot where even the biggest meat lovers are going to love eating their vegetables.

Plant Yourself: Be sure to grab a reservation (oh, and bring a big group if you can, so you can enjoy as many small plates as possible). The dining room is spacious and cozy, while the bar offers easy seating for couples grabbing appetizers, drinks, or dessert.
Don’t Miss: Start with the rutabaga fondue and stuffed avocado from the Vedge bar, then try the incredible shaved brussels sprouts from the Dirt List. When it comes to main courses, the Wood Grilled Carrot and Ssamjang Tofu are unique and unforgettably delicious.
Order for the Table: The rutabaga fondue is an absolute must (be sure to ask for an extra soft pretzel once you finish the first one).
Leave Room for: The desserts here are rich, flavorful, and fantastic. Choose the one that catches your eye, or just order the latest sorbet and ice cream flavors.
What We’d Skip: Since your bill is certain to reflect the incredible quality (and quantity) of food you ordered, you can skip the pricey cocktails and head elsewhere in Center City for a drink.

2. Charlie Was A Sinner

Calling All: Lovers of bar food, strong cocktails, and long conversations, Charlie Was A Sinner is for you.
Plant Yourself: Bring a date or a crew of friends, and spend your evening lounging in the low-key, yet upscale environment. Come for the drinks, come for the amazing plant-based bar food — but more than anything, come for the atmosphere. It gets loud and dark inside, so arrive early if you don’t like crowds.
Don’t Miss: The Charlie’s sliders are a must-eat — complete with tomato-jalapeno jam, crisped-to-perfection shallots and a side of crunchy potato chips, they’re the best comfort food to enjoy with your first cocktail of the evening.
Order for the Table: The potato croquettes are sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Dip into chipotle aioli (all vegan, of course) and sin away.

Leave Room for: Charlie is famous for their cocktails, so be sure to leave room for one of their many must-tries. The East of Eden never disappoints, nor does the daily special Charlie’s Punch. Not in the mood for a drink? Try one of their equally complex and delicious mocktails.

Address: 131 S 13th Street

3. Bar Bombon

Calling All: Lovers of margaritas, tacos, and guacamole. Come for the drinks and stay for the filling and flavorful brunch, lunch, and dinner from Bar Bombon.

Plant Yourself: Right off Rittenhouse Square, this plant-based taqueria is turning out good food and good vibes. Grab a table for two in their busy dining room — or take a seat outside in the spring and summertime. Make a reservation if you can, since it can get crowded at lunch and dinner.

Don’t Miss: Bar Bombon is a can’t-miss spot when it comes to happy hour. Head there Monday-Thursday from 4 to 7 pm for $5 margaritas, $4.50 tacos, and anyone who’s ready to kick back and relax after work.

Order for the Table: Grab nachos or guacamole, buffalo cauliflower tacos, and some sweet coconut rice with Cuban black beans for the perfect vegan fiesta. Plus, the Philly cheesesteak empanadas are sure to give you a taste of Philadelphia (and satisfy any craving).

Leave Room for: You’re definitely going to want to enjoy a La Preferida margarita (or two, or three) with your meal, and save room to split some decadent, coconutty Tres leches cake when you’re done. What we’d skip: While the traditional and fajita tacos are certainly tasty, they don’t hold a candle to the signature buffalo cauliflower.

4. The Tasty

Calling All: If you’re the kind of person who wants to wake up to classic diner comfort food, from biscuits and gravy to pancakes, head over to South Philly for The Tasty. Their entirely plant-based menu served in a laid-back atmosphere is guaranteed to cure your hunger or hangover — and make you happy you got out of bed at 9 am on a Sunday.

Plant Yourself: On the weekends, show up past 9 — that’s when The Tasty starts serving their full brunch menu, including specials like S’mores French Toast and Brunchiladas (yes, that’s brunch enchiladas). Order at the counter, get a cup of coffee and a table, and wait to hear your name called for the vegan brunch of your dreams.

Don’t Miss: If you love a savory breakfast, you must order the homemade flaky biscuits with Bayou gravy (it’s smoky, spicy, and sweet with vegan sausage and onion). If a sweet brunch is more your style, dig into the absolutely decadent potato Brioche French toast topped with whipped cream and berries.

Order for the Table: Since it wouldn’t be a dinner breakfast without potatoes, get an order of fried-to-perfection waffle fries for your whole group.
Leave room for: The Tasty has a wide range of vegan coffee drinks, from vanilla maple lattés with oat milk to almond cappuccinos.

Address: 1401 S 12th Street

5. Batter and Crumbs

Calling All: Coffee, dessert, and breakfast food lovers — Batter and Crumbs is the vegan hotspot you’ve been waiting for.
Plant Yourself: It’s been billed as the “vegan Starbucks,” and it doesn’t disappoint (in fact, it’s better). New to the Philly vegan scene, Batter and Crumbs is serving up pastries, muffins, and creative alternative-milk coffee drinks, all in a cozy coffee shop atmosphere. Bring some work or a friend and spend a morning in this vegan haven.

Don’t Miss: The artisanal Pop-Tarts are an amazing alternative to the packaged kind — especially with incredible vegan flavors like pumpkin pie and wild berry. See what specials are available in the bakery case and order whatever catches your eye!

Order for the Table: You won’t be disappointed with a selection of brownies, muffins, cupcakes, and whatever else the Batter and Crumbs team has dreamed up for behind the counter. Place an order to-go (be sure to do so ahead of time) and enjoy for days to come! Leave Room for: Coffee! You’ll appreciate the all-vegan offerings from mochas to chai lattés (plus options for chocolate drizzle, whipped cream, and flavored syrups). Pair with apple streusel and your morning is set.

Address: 1401 Reed Street

6. Front Street Café

Calling All: It’s the farm-to-table restaurant for everyone—billed as “vegan, vegetarian, and carnivore,” it’s got something for any kind of eater on its menu. However, this brunch, lunch, and dinner spot is especially vegan-friendly — and it’s a can’t-miss meal if you find yourself in the Fishtown area.

Plant Yourself: Space for weekend brunch can be tough, so make a reservation. If your group is early, you can always grab an espresso in its café section or a draft beer at the bar. Something we love? The menu is marked with tiny graphics to denote which items have meat, fish, or dairy — making plant-based ordering easy as ever. Note that the service tends to be slow, so order right away if you’re hungry!

Don’t Miss: Be sure to start with a local beer on draft. Then, try the veggie Reuben or tostada grain bowl at lunch, or the vegetable gnocchi at dinnertime. If you’re headed to FSC for breakfast, try the vegan scrapple with tofu scramble on a brioche bun.

Order for the Table: Start with the vegan mozzarella sticks. The crunchy sunflower-seed crust and the delicious dipping sauce will make you forget cheese ever existed.
Leave Room for: After your meal, try one of FSC’s refreshing smoothies. We recommend the matcha mint chip or the creamsicle.

What We’d Skip: The French fries and potatoes are a little on the heavier side, so leave them out unless you have time for a nap afterward.

Address: 1253 N Front Street

https://www.instagram.com/p/B4S0lrND1a7/?hidecaption=true

7. 20th Street Pizza

Calling All: If you love vegan pizza and you’ve already exhausted the options at Blackbird (or just want a Center City spot), head to its sister restaurant, 20th Street Pizza. Newly opened in the spring of 2019, it’s got the variety, comfort, and taste of its plant-based twin.

Plant Yourself: 20th Street Pizza keeps the same casual vibe as Blackbird, though the Center City location makes it seem a little more upscale. Order at the front and grab a seat in the back (or get it to-go, or even delivered if you’re in the area).
Don’t Miss: Instead of going in on an entire pie, order a variety of slices to try everything 20th Street has to offer. Start with the classic Margherita to get a taste, then try another or two of their more adventurous offerings (Hot Potato and Stromboli come to mind).

Order for the Table: The more traditional options come with the flavors you love, but the Greens pizza is secretly delicious. Be sure to add one of these slices to your order and have everyone try a bite: You won’t regret it.
Leave Room for: If you still have room for dessert after eating all the pizza your heart (and stomach) desire, 20t h Street Pizza offers sweet vegan cookies at the front of the shop.

What We’d Skip: While the garlic knots never fail to look mouthwatering, they’re a little lacking in flavor compared to the pizza options. Leave them behind and get an extra slice instead.

Address: 108 S 20th Street

https://www.instagram.com/p/B4ubirVF2KG/?hidecaption=true

8. HipCityVeg

Calling All: Fast-casual food lovers who have just been waiting for an all-vegan breakfast, lunch, and dinner spot.
Plant Yourself: This quick-stop, lower-cost vegan eatery currently has eight locations (including two in the Philly suburbs and two in D.C.), so you won’t have trouble finding one to grab your vegan meal. Note that not all locations serve breakfast, so be sure to head to the Broad St. spot if you’re looking for early morning grub.

Don’t Miss: The Ziggy Burger is a classic (smoked tempeh smothered in HipCityVeg’s flavorful sauce), while the Arugula Taco salad is the perfect pick for those craving lighter on-the-go fare.
Order for the Table: HipCityVeg is the place to go if you’re eating alone—so grab a vegan shake or smoothie with your meal and don’t worry about sharing!

Leave Room for: The banana whip is a healthy, refreshing dessert to pair with your meal, especially in the warmer months.
What We’d Skip: The food here can get greasy, so be prepared if you order a burger or sandwich with fries. If you’re looking for a cleaner option, stick to the salads and kale lemonade.

Address: 121 S. Broad Street (and other locations)

https://www.instagram.com/p/B2HnLOLDySt/?hidecaption=true

9. P.S. & Co.

Calling All: Anyone who loves to eat clean and healthy, but also wants food that tastes like, well, food. P.S. & Co isn’t just plant-based: It’s organic, Kosher, and gluten-free, so it caters to almost any special diet.

Plant Yourself: P.S. & Co combines a local bakery atmosphere with a sophisticated restaurant environment, so pick your vibe and go for it. Whether you’re headed out for a nourishing date night or just grabbing a juice and slice of cake on your own, they’ve got something for you.

Don’t Miss: Head over during the day and treat yourself to the Waffle Club. With baked tofu and sautéed veggie inside and a delicious waffle outside, it’s the sweet-savory mix you didn’t know you needed. The best part? Their vegan cheese is made from raw red pepper, so it doesn’t leave you feeling sick when you’re finished.

Order for the Table: If you’re a fan of avocado toast, your whole crew has to dig into their customizable options—choose your bread (from nut & seed to a whole-wheat bagel) and pick perfect toppings like sweet jalapeño drizzle, pico de gallo and did we mention their vegan hard-boiled “egg”?!

Leave Room for: Cake, muffins, scones, and more cake. The bakery window at P.S. & Co. is enough to get you in the door, and make you stay for one (or two, or three) incredible flavors, from carrot to chocolate caramel.

What We’d Skip: Can’t think of anything to skip here — they have healthy food to suit your preferences (and upgraded takes on comfort classics like grilled cheese and meatball subs).

Address: 1706 Locust Street

https://www.instagram.com/p/BxQXOuaDZM6/?hidecaption=true

10. Mission Taqueria

Calling All: Want to get dinner with a friend who’s skeptical about the whole vegan thing? This is the place where everyone can have what they want — in a bright, Instagram-friendly setting.
Plant Yourself: Whether you’re seated at the bar, at one of their sprawling picnic tables, or in a booth, climb up the stairs and take a moment to appreciate the ambiance — shuffleboard tables, neon signs, and on-trend décor create a party vibe (and encourage you to snap lots of photos with your group). It’s the perfect happy hour spot.

Don’t Miss: Once you’ve enjoyed your chips, salsa, and guacamole (with a flavored margarita, of course), dig into one of their vegan taco options—grilled mushroom or roasted cauliflower. With turmeric tortillas and sunflower seed salsa, the roasted cauliflower is definitely a unique favorite.

Order for the Table: You can choose three salsas for a delectable trio that everyone will love — salsa fresca, habanero, and verde crudo make the best combination.
Leave Room for: While the desserts aren’t vegan-friendly here, you can’t go wrong with a signature margarita. Choose from options like a green juice margarita, a carrot-turmeric-pineapple frozen margarita, or make it spicy!

What We’d Skip: If you can’t choose between the two vegan tacos, leave behind the grilled mushroom — the roasted cauliflower easily packs the more interesting flavors of the two.

Address: 1516 Sansom Street (2nd Floor)

https://www.instagram.com/p/CFvZtyGDxw5/?hidecaption=true

11. LUHV Vegan Deli

Calling All: Missing deli food? You’re going to be overjoyed by the options at this Reading Terminal spot — it has all the cold cuts and cheeses your herbivore heart desires.
Plant Yourself: Spend a late morning wandering around Philly’s Reading Terminal Market and end it with a fantastic lunch at this always-packed vegan joint. When you see all the “meat” and “cheese” options, you’re not going to believe that the menu is entirely vegan (but yes, it is). Bonus: you can order cold cuts, sliced cheeses, and sides (like vegan tuna salad and coleslaw) by the pound — and make a sandwich bar back at home!

Don’t Miss: The vegan Reuben is a must-add to your order. Get ready for the bite that will make sure you never miss meat or cheese again. Order for the table: LUHV is a perfect spot to eat solo, but if you’re with a group, order their other comfort food items — from house veggie burgers to gluten-free chili — and try everything.

Leave Room for: Since it wouldn’t be a sandwich without chips, be sure to grab some crunch as a side to your order.
Address: 51 N 12th Street (Inside Reading Terminal Market)

https://www.instagram.com/p/B4TPkopD89q/?hidecaption=true

12. Sabrina’s

Calling All: Brunch lovers, unite! Bring your vegan, non-vegan, gluten-free, and omnivore friends to this picturesque University City spot (or check out one of their other locations around and outside the city). While the menu isn’t vegan, it’s packed with plant-based choices from brunch to dinner for even the pickiest of eaters.
Plant Yourself: Check the waitlist (and be prepared to wait at peak times) and head over with friends or family for brunch. More in the mood for dinner? Their meal menus are definitely delicious, though they’re more known for their breakfast.
Don’t Miss: The “Soy Division” vegan breakfast (on the brunch specials menu) is a brunch must-have: think perfectly toasted English muffin, plant-based Hollandaise sauce, and smoked tempeh, all served with a side of home fries. It’s the brunch you never knew you could have as a vegan — and it’s all yours.

Order for the Table: Your whole group is sure to appreciate some extra Sabrina’s home fries—grab another plate and share away! Leave room for: The “Waffle of Voodoo” (another brunch special) will fulfill your sweet breakfast dreams: Blueberry-vanilla sauce, bananas foster, and fresh strawberries, all over a warmed vanilla waffle? Count us in.

What we’d skip: Steer away from vegan substitutions for non-vegan meals (though they have plenty) and stick to the plant-based specials. You can’t go wrong with their variety of options — no replacements required!

Address: 227 N 34th Street (and other locations)

https://www.instagram.com/p/B3IOGv1HWD3/?hidecaption=true

13. Martha

Calling All: Lately, everyone’s buzzing about Martha in Kensington — a neighborhood bar hotspot with upscale omnivorous food choices and creative drinks.

Don’t Miss: For vegan choices, skip the cheese and charcuterie and head right to the “vegetables” section of the menu. The “Vegan Jawn” hoagie is definitely their plant-based specialty — created with carrot and served with chips and a pickle on the side, it’s their version of a “coppa” cold cut. It’s sure to fill you up.

Order for the Table: If you’re with a group of fellow plant-based eaters, you must go in on the vegan cheese plate — with cashew and coconut cheeses, apple chutney, and a side of pickles, it’s any vegan’s dream. While your non-vegan friends may enjoy more of the sharing options, you can dig into some of the veggies — the pickle boat or Sichuan broccoli are two go-to options. Looking for something for everyone? You can’t go wrong with a hummus plate.

Leave Room for: If you’re a whiskey aficionado, you’ll love the local flight options at Martha. Looking for a cocktail? Go for the iced coffee Negroni if you flock toward strong flavors, and stick to the draft beer offerings for something light. For non-drinkers, the earl grey and applesauce kombucha flavors are a must-try.

What We’d Skip: Since the menu is limited for vegans, there’s not much you can go wrong with here!

Charleston’s beauty fills the entire city with a lively and unbelievable sense of serenity, relaxation, and excitement. 5. Ali Baba

Plant Yourself: The vegetarian and vegan-friendly Meditteranean restaurant is a prime lunch location for anyone looking for a filling, delicious plant-based meal. The Ali Baba staff works extra hard to make sure that you can order a plant-based item and that it will not be crossed with any of the dairy or animal-based products in the restaurant. The restaurant offers a wide variety of plant-based sandwich options and fully customizable vegetarian platter options.

Don’t Miss: When picking up food from Ali Baba make sure to try one of the restaurant’s delicious salads or vegan sandwiches. Order the Falafel or Grilled Veggie Pita sandwiches without the feta to make certain you receive a completely plant-based meal. Both sandwiches contain all the flavor you want from a Mediterranean meal and can be accompanied by one of the restaurant’s many tasty vegan sides including the Tabouli Salad or Sauteed Cauliflower with sumac and lemon juice.

Address: 186 Seven Farms Dr. Suite 500

6. The Gathering Cafe

Plant-Yourself: When visiting The Gathering Cafe, the best section of the menu to focus on is the bowls. Each of the cafe’s five bowls comes completely vegan, packed tightly with flavor, and filled with a diverse and delicious medley of vegetables. The top bowl is the Spicy Panang Curry Bowl served with carrots, kale, mushrooms, ginger, and zucchini over a bed of brown rice. For $2.95 extra, you can add tofu to the bowl to give your meal some extra protein power. However, if you are not feeling spicy, then the Tofu Wrap is a familiar favorite. The signature tofu wrap sandwich comes loaded with tofu, green onion, avocado, almond butter sauce, kimchi mayo, cucumber, carrots, and romaine.

Calling All: This health-forward restaurant developed a menu to satisfy any customer. Although located relatively far from the center of town, Gathering Cafe is worth the trip. Among its extensive plant-based menu, the restaurant offers a variety of delicious smoothies, juices, and signature coffee drinks. Between the Daily Greens smoothie containing avocado, kale, peach, banana, flaxseed, dates, and apple juice and the freshly squeezed Grapefruit Juice, there is no way to go wrong with a refreshment at the Gathering Cafe.

Address: 1124 Sam Rittenberg Blvd.

7. Jack of Cups Saloon

Don’t Miss: It’s never a complete trip to Charleston without driving to Folly Beach. The beautiful beach directly south of the city is one of Charleston’s biggest draws, and it is exactly what keeps people coming back. The exciting, lively offshoot of the Holy City contains a long strip of bars and restaurants alongside the beach, but near the strip is a globally inspired, vegan-friendly restaurant, Jack of Cups. When on Folly Island, this delicious, beach-designed restaurant is an essential stop along the way

Plant Yourself: The majority of the menu comes vegetarian with few exceptions: Even though the vegetarian menu items feature dairy and egg products, ask the waiter to remove the animal-based ingredients to make the dish fully plant-based. The experimental menu features a variety of delicious dishes made directly for vegans including the Pearled Barley Kisir– a brown rice dish coated with a pomegranate, Aleppo, and ginger tomato dressing then topped with cucumber, mint, scallion, pickled red onions, carrot, and ground pistachio, and served with Bibb lettuce for serving.

Calling All: For something more simple, stop by the backyard bar for a veggie burger and a beer. The beautiful backyard patio is home to a full bar with dozens of beers and cocktails for any customer’s palette. The two veggie burger options are the housemade White Bean Patty and the Impossible Burger. Make sure to order the burger without beer cheese queso or mayo. If you get hungry during your time on Folly Island, remember Jack of Cups is the vegan-friendly saloon to keep in your mind.

Address: 34 Center St.

8. Verde

Plant Yourself: Verde is one of the most health-conscious restaurants in town, providing customers with an extensive plant-based menu available. Even though the menu is not completely plant-based, the menu is stocked with delicious and creative plant-based salads and bowls. Also, no matter where in Charleston you find yourself, there will be a Verde nearby. With four locations, there is a way to get your healthy lunch or dinner anywhere in the city with ease.

Don’t Miss: The Verde menu features several pre-made salads that either come vegan or can be substituted to become vegan. If you do not want to go through the difficulty of changing out the ingredients of some of the preset menu options, then you can create your own salad from scratch from all of the ingredients offered. The build-your-own-salad option allows for the customers to base, top, and dress their own salads from all of the menu items across the menu. The ultimate customization makes this a desirable spot for any plant-based eater in the city.

Be Sure to Try: The two top vegan salads: The Bowled Buddha featuring roasted broccoli, pickled onions, chickpeas, roasted sweet potatoes, avocado, and kimchi, served on brown rice, quinoa, and kale, and drizzled with a turmeric vinaigrette; and the Farmers Market containing mesclun, baby spinach, arugula, beets, cucumber, roasted broccoli, avocado, pickled onion, sunflower seeds, everything bagel seasoning, and basil with Green Goddess Dressing.

Address: Various

9. Bangin’ Vegan Eats

Take Note: This Charleston staple is a vegan meal that you’ve got to earn a little. The Bangin’ Vegan Eat food truck is constantly on the move, switching locations around the Holy City, jumping from festival to festival, but nevertheless consistently delicious. Depending on your visit, the food truck could be located anywhere in the city, but luckily, the Bangin’ Vegan Eats crew drops the location of the truck at the beginning of the week and sometimes sporadically through its social media accounts. The food truck can also be found on its Street Food Finder page here.

Don’t Miss: From plant-based Philly cheesesteaks to Hunny Garlic & Buffalo bangers, there is never enough delicious vegan food coming from Bangin’ Vegan Eats. The constantly evolving menu is bringing some of the best and most experimental takes on familiar favorites in the entire city. The vegan food truck specializes in the most familiar, and beloved American classics including burgers, nachos, and hot dogs. The mobile restaurant boasts a high protein menu without any animal products, aiming to break down stereotypes behind plant-based food. Opening in May of this year, Bangin’ Vegan Eat is shaking the plant-based food scene in Charleston with so much more to offer on its horizon.

Address: Use the Street Food Finder to locate Bangin’s truck

Philadelphia is a great city for food. This historical destination is as beautiful as it is filled with incredible restaurants, featuring every cuisine to satisfy any craving. Plant-based and vegan diners don’t need to miss out on any of the action, because fortunately, Philly is also great for vegan food, with plenty of spots dedicated to vegan cuisine, as well as many other vegan-friendly restaurants with a robust lineup of meatless and vegetarian menu options.

Here are a few — in no particular order — of Philadelphia’s best vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants to visit on your next trip to the city.

The 10 Best Vegan Restaurants in Philadelphia

1. Algorithm

Calling all: Extremely online Philadelphians. Algorithm is a food truck, and they travel to locations all over the city — follow them on social media to find out where they’ll be next. Recent frequent places include Love City Brewing, Clark Park, Drexel University, and Philadelphia Brewing. They also cater events, so check them out if you’re planning a wedding and want vegan options that won’t be the usual sad steamed vegetables.

Plant Yourself: Wherever you find Algorithm that day. Most locations are near parks/park-like areas, or at breweries where you can sit down for a pint with your meal.

Order for the Table: The tacos come in pairs and are perfect snacks to share with a friend. Current offerings include watermelon “tuna” with wasabi aioli and huevos rancheros.

Don’t Miss: The Nashville Hot Chicken has a very spicy origin story. Algorithm’s version is vegan — they use crispy seitan — and it’s as hot as the original. If you like heat, you’ll love this.

Address: Various, follow their Instagram to stay up to date

2. Triangle Tavern

Calling All: Eaters looking for a bar/restaurant for dinner with veg-averse friends. Triangle’s menu includes plenty of choices for vegans as well as omnivores. And you can go late because their kitchen stays open until 1 a.m.

Plant Yourself: At the nice big outdoor seating area on their wide sidewalk; you can dine al fresco without cars bearing down on you.

Order for the Table: Get a vegan pizza, and share it like an appetizer. The buffalo chicken or white pizzas are always a great choice.

Don’t Miss: If the vegan lasagna is on the specials menu when you go, just get that; it’s fantastic. It’s very labor-intensive to make, so they don’t have it all the time. If it isn’t a lasagna night, consider the cheesesteak. They make one of the best in the city, which is saying a lot.

Leave Room For: A cocktail. Triangle makes a terrific Black Manhattan.

Address: 1338 S 10th St, Philadelphia

3. Miss Rachel’s Pantry

Calling All: Seeking a special dining experience. Miss Rachel’s Pantry is the place. Dinner is fixed-price, fixed menu, and BYOB. It isn’t easy to get in; spots sell out fast as soon as they open up. Get on the email list, and be ready to smash that reservation button fast. Follow them on social media to find out about last-minute openings. Or if you have a larger group, you can book the whole Pantry for a private party.

Plant Yourself: In the dining room, which seats about 20, so the vibe is less like a typical restaurant and more like a dinner party.

Order for the Table: Miss Rachel’s meals often start with biscuits. Don’t skip these; they’re always right out of the oven, and they’re so good.

Don’t Miss: The menu is fixed, so you won’t have the usual choices to make. But if you’re looking at the schedule and you see a pasta night, go then. They make their pasta in-house, and you’ll probably find it’s the best you’ve ever had.

Address: 1938 S Chadwick St, Philadelphia

4. Tomo

Calling All: Japanese food fans who want lots of veg options. Tomo is a vegan-friendly restaurant with a veggie menu bigger than most. They have lots of vegan rolls on their menu, as well as some ramen that can be customized. It’s BYOB, so don’t forget the sake.

Plant Yourself: In the cozy dining room, or if the weather’s nice, at an outdoor table. Make a reservation, especially if you’re going on a weekend, because seating is very limited.

Order for the Table: The vegan cheesesteak sushi roll includes braised seitan, cucumber, oshinko, vegan cheese, and fried onions. Sounds very weird; is very delicious.

Don’t Miss: The vegan miso ramen, and ask them to top it off with some seitan teriyaki.

Leave Room For: Vegan green tea mochi. Make sure you specify dairy-free because they also have dairy-based desserts.

Address: 228 Arch St, Philadelphia

5. Batter and Crumbs

Calling All: Daytime food fans — breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Batter and Crumbs is a sweet little all-vegan café on a corner in South Philly. They also carry a big selection of prepared items from some other places — Cheezy Vegan, Yalla Oats, and gluten-free options from High Fidelity.

Plant Yourself: In their sunny, bright, and cheerful dining room — it’s guaranteed to put you in a good mood for the day.

Order for the Table: The Batter and Crumbs Jawns, what’s known in Italy as “erbazzone” — a flat, savory pie with a flaky crust. It’s delicious either cold or hot, and it’s easy to share. The Spinach Jawn is the one they’re famous for, but they make other versions as menu specials.

Don’t Miss: The ‘Bacun’ Cheddar Scone is buttery, smoky, cheesy, and heavenly.

Leave Room For: Dessert If you’re just getting a little something for yourself, try a seasonal cupcake. If you need something for a party, the confetti cake serves 8-12 guests and can be customized with a message.

Address: 1401 Reed Street, Philadelphia

6. The Nile Café

Calling All: Looking for a vegan restaurant that’s stood the test of time. Nile — located in Germantown — holds the distinction of being Philadelphia’s longest-running vegan restaurant. They’ve been open since 1995.

Plant Yourself: In the plant-filled dining room, or outside at one of their garden tables. Or take your food home — these are mostly stews, so they travel really well, and are just as good the next day.

Order for the Table: The veggie beef pattie — it’s a protein-filled pastry that makes a great appetizer.

Don’t Miss: On your first visit, get a combo platter. You’ll get two proteins and two sides, so you’ll get to try a lot of different things. If you’re a vegetable-averse vegan — we know a few! — you might be tempted to skip the combo and go straight for the a la carte jerk chicken or roast duck. But the vegetables are prepared really well, with a lot of depth to the flavor, so don’t miss them. No dinky little salads here.

Address: 6008 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia

7. Monster Vegan

Calling all who are looking for a place that feels a little more like a bar than just a restaurant. This space used to be Valanni, and the sign is still on the building. If you want a quiet dinner experience, Monster Vegan might not be the place for you. But if you like old monster movies, goth, and new wave, you’ll love it here.

Plant Yourself: at one of the lounge-y tables in the second room.

Order for the Table: The fried mac and cheese balls come in two per order. House-made cheese, panko crust, San Marzano red sauce, delicious.

Don’t Miss: The cheesesteak hoagie is made with Impossible meat, so it’s a little non-traditional. It’s messy though, so skip it if you’re on a first date and you’re trying to impress. The pesto penne is excellent and always wins over people who think they won’t like vegan food.

Leave Room: For a mocktail. Monster Vegan also has a full bar, but their non-alcohol drink menu is bigger than most. And even if you know you’re sticking to water, take a peek at the drink menu just for the names.

8. Paulie Gee’s Soul City Slice Shop

Calling All: who miss old-school pizza shops, where you can order by the slice. Paulie Gee’s goes a little further — they have a pool table, a bar with wine and beer, and they sell vinyl records.

Plant Yourself: At the bar for a beautiful view of the street through the giant windows.

Order for the Table: The vegan cheese pizza is simple and delicious made with the famous and hard-to-find Numu mozzarella.

Don’t Miss: The vegan Freddy Prinze is an upside-down Silician with mozzarella, sausage, tomato sauce, Parmesan, and sesame seeds on the bottom. Make sure you specify vegan because they also make an omnivore version.

Address: 412 South 13th Street

10. Unity Taqueria

Calling All: Who want to eat well while supporting a bigger mission. Unity’s founders firmly believe that investment in people who have overcome obstacles benefits all of us. They focus on hiring people who are in recovery or returning from the justice system — both factors that can make it difficult to get hired.

Plant Yourself: Outside, when the weather’s nice.

Order for the Table: Get the chips with vegan queso and an extra side of guacamole. (Unity is not exclusively vegan, so make sure you specify.)

Don’t Miss: The burrito names on the menu reflect three different sizes, and then you customize them. They can be made with beans, of course, but Unity has two additional vegan protein options: Varnitas, and roasted chick’n. They also offer vegan sour cream and shredded cheese.

Leave Room for: A Reveal drink. It’s a prebiotic antioxidant drink, made with avocado seed extract and apple cider vinegar, and Unity usually has a few varieties available.

Address: 5420 Ridge Ave, Philadelphia

It’s no secret that Manhattan is a vegan paradise: walking by a newly opened vegan restaurant in the city is hardly a rare occurrence, from high-end cuisine to your casual post-workout hangout, NYC does not disappoint. The wide array of vegan options actually made this list difficult to assemble: it was hard to choose from all the incredible choices Manhattan has to offer, but these restaurants offer many different choices of cuisine, ambiance, and location. Here are our favorite vegan and plant-based restaurants in New York City.

The Best Restaurants to Eat Vegan in Manhattan

1. Délice and Sarrasin

Calling all: French food aficionados, from those with refined palates looking to capture a nostalgic taste of traditional French cuisine to the lovers looking to impress their non-vegan date, Délice and Sarrasin is for you.
Plant yourself: at one of the cozy tables in an elegant-yet-intimate setting with impeccable service, enjoying your meal with the sound of French music. The wine selection is 100% vegan.
Take note: the restaurant is always booked several days in advance so make sure to plan ahead.
Must-Have: For starters, try the cheese platter (plateau de fromage) and the Vegan Foie Gras with fig jam, it is all homemade with love in this family-owned kitchen. For the main, crêpes are our absolute favorites, a very traditional dish of the Britany region. Order the Mr Petrossian Galette de Sarrasin made with Vegan Smoked Salmon, yes you read right! Vegan Smoked Salmon, made with konjac root and algae.
Be sure to enjoy: Coq au vin, no hesitation. All my non-vegan friends were absolutely amazed. You can be sure to impress them with this vegan version of braised chicken and mushrooms.
What to skip: If you’re not a fan of the taste of meat, stay away from meat imitation dishes because they truly taste real. If this is your first time, I would say skip the Steak Frites. Don’t get me wrong, it’s delicious, but I would recommend trying the other incredible items.
Don’t leave without: Dessert! The Lavender Infused Rice Pudding is to die for.

Address: 20 Christopher Street, b/t Gay St and Waverly Pl in West Village

2. Double Zero

Calling all: Pizza lovers!
Plant yourself: At the terrace to catch some sunshine and indulge in people-watching. Outdoor seating is pretty rare in Manhattan so it would be a shame not to take advantage of it. Inside, there’s Double Zero has shared seating at large communal tables which is great for meeting new people.
Must-Have: The food is crafted by Chef Matthew Kenney, so there is nothing that can go wrong here. If you like truffles, make sure you try the Truffle Cashew Cream pizza, the melty texture is incredible and will drive your senses out of whack.
Be Sure to Enjoy: As much as you can! I recommend ordering several dishes to share with your friends or your date. It would be a shame to only try one dish on the menu because there is such a wide array of flavors.

Address: 65 2nd Ave, East Village

3. Jajaja Plantas Mexicana

Calling all: Vegans and non-vegans alike, because the food will blow your mind. If you’re into spicy food, this is your spot.
Plant yourself: At the bar to try one of their amazing cocktails while waiting for your table. My favorite cocktail is the Cucumber and Basil, which has the perfect balance of sweetness and freshness. Jajaja’s restaurants do not take reservations, but I promise it is worth the wait! The scene is super versatile, making it the ideal spot for a date, or for pre-drinks and snacks with your coworkers.
Must Haves: I used to eat quesadillas on a weekly basis before switching to a plant-based diet, so I would describe myself as a rather harsh judge when it comes to rating the cheesy treat. JaJaJa makes the best ones in town by far. Who would think to use coconut milk? If you are looking for a healthier or less-cheesy option, go for the turmeric cauliflower rice, it is exquisite.
Be Sure to Enjoy: As much as you can! We recommend ordering several dishes and sharing with your friends, or your date.
Don’t leave without: Taking a picture for your Instagram feed. And while you’re at it, check out Jajaja’s Instagram account for a daily dose of well-curated inspiration and updates on new menu items.

Address: 162 E Broadway and 63 Carmine Street, Manhattan

4. Spicy Moon

Calling all: Chinese food experts! Spicy Moon is your ultimate cool-yet-not-overly-pretentious spot for a pre-Girls Night Out dinner or even for a more casual date spot.
Take Note: Don’t worry, the menu says ‘vegetarian Szechuan’, but Spicy Moon is 100 percent vegan.
Must-Have: The food selection is huge (usually a bad sign for indecisive eaters like me!) but I was impressed with how succulent everything was. Everything is so delicious, that it’s nearly impossible to recommend any specific dish! Get it all and then get a doggy bag to go for anything that’s unfinished – leftovers taste just as good the day after, dare we say even better?
Be Sure to Enjoy: All of their noodle dishes, which are my personal favorites for their incredible texture and flavoring. The dumplings are exquisite. If you’re looking for something spicy, I recommend mapo tofu.

Address: 328 East 6th St, between 1st and 2nd Ave, East Village, Manhattan

5. Le Botaniste

Calling all: Mindful plant eaters, seasonal food enthusiasts, and planet caregivers.
Plant yourself: On a high table or by the window. Le Botaniste is the perfect spot for a healthy lunch break, or to catch up with a friend you have not seen in a while.
Must Haves: Red beet caviar is a great small bite to start with. Load up on appetizers like green pea hummus and seaweed tartare if you’re dining with a group.
Be Sure to Enjoy: The Spicy Chilly Sin Carne or the Vegetable Tajine.
Don’t leave without: Everything is delicious. You can rest assured you gave your body the healthiest organic fuel it needs, so you can carry on with your busy schedule.

Address: 833 Lexington Ave, Upper East; 127 Grand Street, Soho; 666 3rd Ave, Manhattan

6. P.S. Kitchen

P.S. Kitchen is your ultimate dining spot post-Broadway show! I love to support their business every time I’m in the area because this is a non-profit restaurant, donating 100 percent of profits to sustainable charitable work locally and overseas. Plus, the setting and lighting are perfect for that cute Instagram story/post.
Must Haves: The Smokey BBQ Burger is incredible, the cheese melts in your mouth and the pretzel bun is delicious, with a side of fries that are light and crispy.
Be Sure to Enjoy: The Brunch Prix Fixe! The P.S. Breakfast will put you in a good mood for the rest of the day. To all the matcha lovers, be sure to order their matcha latte, supposedly the best the city has to offer.
Don’t leave without: Making some room for a Brownie Sundae or the Peach Cobbler, or both, if you’re feeling crazy.

Address: 246 W 48th St, Theater District

7. Urban Vegan Kitchen

Plant yourself: At a table by the window if the weather is nice. They have a large room downstairs to accommodate groups: I had my birthday party here and all my guests were more than impressed by both the food and ambiance.
Must Haves: I am officially naming Urban Vegan Kitchen the Best Spot for Vegan Mac and Cheese on the Planet. It is an absolute must! If you are hungry, go for the Lasagna — you won’t be disappointed.
Be Sure to Enjoy: The chocolate cake. Everyone at the table could not believe it, and even said it was the best cake they had ever had (one victory for veganism: check!).
What to Skip: Almost everything if you are on a diet. We go here to indulge without thinking about our weight scale! (More seriously, the tofu scramble plate is amazing if you are looking for healthy options).

Address: 41 Carmine Street, Washington Square Park

8. Seasoned Vegan

Calling All: Vegans who want their favorite comfort food without sacrificing taste!
Must-Have: The “chicken” wings, no hesitation. I was stunned at how delicious they tasted. Officially the best vegan “chicken” wings in the city, and that title still doesn’t do them enough justice. I guarantee you and your friends will fight over the last piece.
Be Sure to Enjoy: something on the raw menu. I would recommend the Raw spaghetti with Marinara sauce.
Don’t leave without: Saying some kind words to the staff before you leave, because everyone is so friendly in this family-owned business that puts so much love into making the food.

Address: 55 Street, Nicholas Avenue, Harlem

9. May Kaidee

Calling All: Thai food lovers! Don’t be thrown off by the simple restaurant setting, the food is the centerpiece here. The restaurant can seat large groups, and May and the staff are extremely gracious and accommodating.
Must Haves: I recommend going for their prix fixe menu, which changes every day. On the À La Carte menu, I would go for the green curry if you like spicy food, or the Pumpkin Hummus if you have a more delicate palate.
Be Sure to Enjoy: The black sticky rice dessert is an absolute killer. Do not leave without trying it.
Don’t leave without: May Kaidee also offers cooking classes, so if you loved your meal, make sure to book a class, or leaf through the restaurant cooking book for some inspo. Or, check out the website to purchase your own cookbook copy!

Address: 215 East Broadway, Lower East Side

Fall is the best time to relax on the beach, take the ferry to Shelter Island, visit the Parish Museum, and use this guide to find the best vegan bites in each town, from Southampton to Montauk. We found the best places to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and include helpful advice on how to place your order so you can be sure that there’s no honey in your dressing or cheese in your pesto.

Note that not all of these restaurants are entirely vegan, but we suggested the meat-and-dairy-free swaps that make it easy to eat plant-based and have a seamless trip to the Hamptons.

The 12 Best Places to Find Vegan Food in the Hamptons

The Best Restaurants to Eat Vegan in Southampton, New York

1. Four Oaks

The quaint cafe and juice bar on a side street in Southampton village serves fresh all-natural foods with a variety of vegan options including my favorite, the chickpea “tuna” salad with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, sprouts, avocado on multigrain bread. My second favorite vegan dish has to be the veggie chipotle wrap made with sauteed onions, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, zucchini, corn, tomato, greens, avocado, and chipotle aioli in a spinach wrap. It’s warm, fresh, clean, and flavorful. This spot is great for a casual lunch on the picnic benches outside or takeout to eat on the beach.

Address: 42 Jagger Lane, Southampton

2. Saaz

If you’re craving Indian food, head over to Saaz, located on 27, the main highway you drive on when you arrive in the Hamptons. If you’re on your way east, stop in to dine or get takeout and eat it at your final destination. The chickpea chana masala and tofu tiki masala are my two favorite dishes. There are loads of veggie options on the menu so take your time to explore and be sure to ask for homemade naan and request it be vegan since they may use ghee.

Address: 1746 Country Road 39, Southampton

The Best Restaurants to Eat Vegan in Bridgehampton, New York

3. Yama Q

This take-out restaurant located in Bridgehampton town serves healthy Japanese-style food and has a wide variety of vegan options including my two favorite desserts, Thai Coconut Tapioca with Mango and Chocolate Tapioca with Cashew Cream. For starters, the miso soup is everything you expect it to be with a little more flavor. The agedashi tofu and vegetable spring rolls are also my favorite starters and for the main course, the vegan tofu lasagna with a creamy filling, saucy tomato sauce, and al-dente lasagna noodles satisfies like nothing else.

Address: 2393 Montauk Hwy, Bridgehampton

4. Hamptons Beach Bowls

Similar to Provisions and Four Oaks, the cafe and juice shop has a wide selection of vegan options like acai bowls, salads, smoothies, wraps, and more. It’s the place to go after a workout or to pick up a quick bite. My go-to order is avocado toast with fresh basil and tomato, and you can’t leave without getting the green goddess juice that’s full of the usual fresh vegetables but also has mint for a refreshing, cool aftertaste.

Address: 2462 Main St, Bridgehampton

The Best Restaurants to Eat Vegan in Sag Harbor, New York

5. Provisions

With two locations in Sag and Watermill, Provisions is a grocery store, cafe, and juice bar with excellent vegan breakfast options, wraps, sandwiches, and salads. My go-to for breakfast is always their green juice and the black bean burrito requested to be made vegan with their vegan cheese and tofu sour cheese.

The wrap is also loaded with black beans and rice and comes with a side of guacamole and salsa. Provisions have all sorts of vegan alternatives like vegan Cesar salad dressing, tofu alternatives including sour cream, and a selection of vegan cheese. For lunch, I enjoy the Tempeh Ruben sandwich which is a flavorful and filling bite made with marinated tempeh, soy cheese, sauerkraut, carrots, and non-dairy Russian dressing on grilled multigrain bread. It’s also Chef Katie Lee’s go-to order!

Address: 7 Main St, Sag Harbor

6. Lulu Kitchen & Bar

With a great ambiance for drinks at the bar or a romantic place for date night, Lulu right in Sagtown is a charming spot with a vegan-friendly menu if requested. You can order the signature heirloom cauliflower that’s served with yogurt so ask for it without. This dish is big enough for two to three people so share it with your plus one or two and also order the bibb lettuce salad, a refreshing and simple french-style salad with a delicious dressing. Lulu also has a seasonal crudites platter full of farm vegetables, hummus, and tapenade.

Address: 126 Main St, Sag Harbor

The Best Restaurants to Eat Vegan in East Hampton, New York

7. The Golden Pear

An iconic Hamptons cafe chain with locations in East, Bridge, and South, serving breakfast and lunch with an easy menu to make anything vegan (for the most part). The kale and quinoa veggie burger is served with sun-dried tomato pesto, sliced cucumbers, carrots, and greens on a whole grain bun, and is one delicious lunch. Oftentimes they have soup specials that are 100 percent vegan but you have to ask ahead of time and they’re willing to make swaps if needed! Don’t leave without a cup of joe in the classic Golden Pear to-go cup!

Address: 34 Newtown Lane, East Hampton

8. Hampton Chutney

Hampton Chutney is home to my favorite lunch place in the Hamptons, hands down. The Indian restaurant serves all kinds of dosas and uttapams you can get with plant-based fillings like avocado, spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, roasted onions, you name it. If you’ve never had a dosa before it’s almost like eating a very thin, flat, crepe-like wrap. Each one comes with homemade chutney and you must order an iced oat chai to sip while you enjoy your meal.

Address: 107 Newtown Lane, East Hampton

The Best Restaurants to Eat Vegan in Amagansett, New York

9. Organic Krush Lifestyle

This eatery makes it easy for any plant-based eater to decide what’s vegan because each plant-based menu item is marked with a V next to the name. My favorite breakfast order is the sweet potato hash made with green peppers, onions, apples, and smoked paprika aioli. I’d also recommend the vegan bone broth bowl served with tofu, sugar snap peas, red onion, peppers, kale, turmeric, and tahini – it’s one flavorful bowl. Organic Krush has an entire selection of vegan acai bowls and a build-your-own salad bowl with what feels like endless vegan toppings.

Address: 207 Main St, Amagansett

10. Coche Comedor

For delicious Mexican food with an array of vegan side options that make up for the main course, Coche Comedor is a delicious eatery located on the highway in Amagansett. They make their own hand-pressed tortillas so order sides like the wood-roasted beets with pistachio salsa, Mexican rice, Balsam Farms’ heirloom cherry tomato salad, and wood charred sweet potatoes (hold the honey) and stuff it in your tortillas. Last but not least, you must order the homemade guacamole and a margarita.

Address: 74A Montauk Hwy, Amagansett

The Best Restaurants to Eat Vegan in Montauk, New York

11. Naturally Good

With the best smoothies in town and a wide variety of vegan options, Naturally Good in MTK is one of the best places to get takeout and eat at the beach. Order the scrambled tofu burrito and ask them to hold the cheese, or order the vegan sausage egg and cheese and ask them to hold the cheese and swap the egg for the tofu scramble. For lunch, the cajun tofu wrap made with black beans, cabbage, cilantro, greens, tomatoes, and avocado is a must-try.

Address: 779 Montauk Highway, Montauk

12. Joni’s

This beach-shack cafe has plenty of vegan options for breakfast and lunch, including a delicious tofu scramble with carrots, spinach, and scallions, and homemade organic flax-coconut waffles, a sinful treat. For a light yet flavorful dish, the Thai Me Up with sweet ginger tofu and mixed vegetables is my-go order. The Hail Ceasar is made with dairy-free dressing and any one of their salads can be easily made into a vegan masterpiece.

Address: 28 S. Etna Ave Store #9

It used to be that vegan food was only found in select places the heart of New York City, but thanks to a boom in plant-based eating in recent years, the vegan influence has stretched across Manhattan, and well into other boroughs. It’s no surprise then, that Brooklyn is packed with vegan and veggie-friendly restaurants that boast delicious fare at affordable prices. Here we break down the top 12 spots to find plant-based options when in Brooklyn.

1. Modern Love

Plant yourself: Self-described on their Instagram as “swanky vegan comfort,” Modern Love is home to the hands-down best vegan food in Brooklyn. Owned by Isa Moscowitz, former Post Punk Kitchen blogger and bestselling cookbook author, the restaurant boasts a happy medium between ornate and homey decor in addition to a cool, calm, and collected ambiance, even when every seat is filled, which is more often than not.
Don’t miss: Modern Love’s dishes boast rich sauces, fried-to-perfection proteins, and ample portions that remind the eater that five-star food doesn’t have to be skimpy. Can’t choose between protein, pasta, salad, or bread? Not to worry: the chickpea parm boasts all four on a single plate because Modern Love understands the impossibility of choosing between those most important food groups.
Must try: look no further than the Brooklyn Fried Tofu. This jaw-dropping creation is dipped in a savory batter and fried until no bite lacks a decadent crunch, comes complete with creamy mashed potatoes and tangy cabbage slaw, and leaves nothing to be desired but an extra helping to-go. My favorite dishes are the Chorizo Nachos, Buffalo Tempeh Wings, Chickpea Cutlet Parmesan, Brooklyn Fried Tofu.
Take Note: Modern Love’s menu changes seasonally, plus they add specials all the time, so make sure to check their menu and Instagram before you head to this vegan nirvana.

Address: 317 Union St., Brooklyn, NY

4. Bunna Cafe

Calling all: Vegans trying to stretch their dollar! Ah, Bunna, light of my life, taker of my coins. If any restaurant knows the meaning of “bang for your buck,” it’s this all-vegan Ethiopian gem in the center of Bushwick, where only $17 gets you a literal “feast,” as per their menu, of 7 dishes, and just $37 gets you and a friend two helpings of all 9 dishes–that’s $18.50 a head for even more food than the “feast” option, for those of us who are too hungry to focus on math. But what exactly does this feast entail? Only the best veggies, legumes, and spices this world has to offer – gomen (steamed collard greens with ginger, garlic, and onion), shiro (split peas with tomato and berbere), and my personal favorite, butecha selata (kale and cranberries with chickpea flour stuffing), just to name a few. Now, if you somehow think this isn’t the best deal this side of Myrtle Avenue, the lunch special allows you to try 7 dishes for just $14.
Don’t Miss:  Every dish rests atop a platter of pillowy injera, Ethiopian sourdough flatbread traditionally used in place of utensils. If you’ve never had Ehtiopian food, it may seem like a challenge at first, but you’ll soon be asking yourself how you could ever eat with a fork again. Plus, with a lengthy list of creative cocktails and several Ethiopian beers and wines, you’ll find there’s plenty of reason to visit Bunna even if you aren’t hungry–but honestly, how could you not be?
Must-Try: Feast for 2 so you can try every dish (bring a friend, or just treat your future self with leftovers), lentil sambusa, baklava, Pushkin (Ethiopian white Russian).

Address: 1084 Flushing Avenue, Brooklyn NY, 11237

5. Loving Hut

Calling all: Tired commuters looking for a quick option. Though not exclusive to New York, Loving Hut has secured itself a very special place in many vegan hearts. Quirky, cheap, and steps from the Grand St. L train, this Williamsburg favorite offers a hodgepodge menu of vegan Pan-Asian and American staples to satisfy those lazy nights when you just want some General Tso’s delivered to your door… and some butternut risotto, French onion mac and cheese, and a side of yam and yucca fries, of course. A collage of supposed vegetarian and vegan celebrities and historical figures adorn the walls of the restaurant at the Brooklyn location, making a fun and informative experience dining in.
Don’t Miss: Get there between 11 and 4 any weekday for perhaps the best lunch special in the borough: just $7-$8 for one of thirteen options, from curries and salads to saucy seitan dishes. Add only $1 for a side of soup, salad, or spring roll (or, let’s be real, all three).

Must-Try: Golden nuggets, crispy rolls, General Tso’s Delight, Thai iced tea.

Address: 76 Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn NY, 11221

6. VSpot

Calling all: Hipsters! With locations in Park Slope and the East Village, this all-vegan Latin American restaurant proves that plant-based is translatable in every cuisine. Gone are the days of just eating rice, beans, and tortillas, of asking for no cheese, of waving goodbye to the arepa cart longingly. At VSpot, you can have it all: tacos, burritos, nachos, arepas, and best of all, empanadas.
Don’t Miss: For $10, you can choose three of four creative empanadas (Colombian, red bean, Jamaican, or Philly), though you certainly won’t regret trying all four. Best of all, VSpot knows when you want Latin food, you want a lot of it, resulting in generous portions of all the best things in life. And if you can’t choose between all those things? The appetizer sampler is your new best friend–$22 will score you two empanadas, supreme nachos, avocado fries, and buffalo strips. Never waste valuable eating time in the name of decision-making again.
Must-Try: Red bean and Philly empanadas, arepa con todo, buffalo chk’n, bandeja paisa.

Address: 156 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11217 and 12 St. Marks Place, New York, NY 10003

7. Clementine

Calling all: cozy breakfast spot seekers! For such a vegan-friendly city, I’ve found that New York is still lacking in a very important department: vegan breakfast. Sure, you’ve got your delis that serve Tofutti, and who doesn’t love a bagel on the go, but there aren’t very many sit-down spots that offer a proper plate of breakfast. Clementine, a patisserie cafe, makes this mission a cakewalk.
Don’t Miss: Start with a giant cinnamon bun, work your way to a jalapeno mozzarella scone, and finally arrive at a savory biscuit and gravy, classic tempeh B.E.C., or a tofu scramble breakfast burrito literally stuffed with tater tots. Wash it all down with a bowl of their decadent soft-serve (but watch out if you’re like me with eyes bigger than your stomach: it’s self-serve). But the real cherry on top is that Clementine is just so cozy–the perfect place to work on, say, a Top 10 Vegan Eateries of Brooklyn list, maybe?
Must Try: Biscuit and gravy, cauliflower wings, cinnamon sticky bun, blueberry cheesecake.

Address: 395 Classon Avenue, Brooklyn NY, 11238

8. Stay Fresh Deli & Grill

Calling all: Plant-based people in a pinch! Okay, this isn’t exactly a destination spot, and I’m biased because it’s in my neighborhood, but Stay Fresh knows what vegans want–24-hour access to sandwiches. Boasting a menu of over ten vegan sandwiches, ranging from the NYC classic chopped cheese to the American favorite “chicken” club, in addition to pints of Ben & Jerry’s non-dairy ice cream and myriad vegan snacks, this Bushwick bodega is far more than meets the eye.
Don’t Miss: Though served on a roll free of charge, for just a dollar more you can basically double the size of any sandwich by requesting it on a hero. With nearly all of its food, snack, and beverage options available to order for delivery on Seamless, you don’t even need to leave your bed–just don’t fall asleep before it gets there.
Must Try: Chopped cheese, turkey cheddar, chicken club, meatball parm.

Address: 889 Broadway Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11206

9. Hartbreakers

Calling all: Plant-based eaters looking for some delicious fried grub! Hartbreakers will win you over with their decadent fried chicken, an array of vegan dipping sauces, and an unbeatable retro aesthetic. Currently, Hartbreakers is doing exclusively outdoor dining as well as delivery and pickup and is open Thursday thru Sunday, 2 to 8 pm. The restaurant is located right near Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick, so it’s a great idea to grab takeout for a picnic.
Don’t Miss: The fried seitan “chicken” recipe that the restaurant spent 6 months perfecting. A customer favorite is the fried chicken buckets that are available with an array of dipping sauces and feature waffle fries and slaw. Another classic is the Picnic Basket Sandwich which comes complete with seitan bacon, vegan cheddar, creamy slaw, pickled red onion, and mondo sauce on a sesame seed bun.
Must-Try: To accompany any sandwich you have to get an order of Hartbreaker’s animal fries, which are waffle-cut fries smothered in plant-based cheese, grilled onions, and mondo sauce.

Address820 Hart St, Brooklyn, NY 11237

10. Terms of Endearment

Calling all: Pastry lovers in search of a vegan café: This 100 percent plant-based café has all of the baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, and drinks you’ve been searching for. Terms of Endearment features a sophisticated Parisian vibe and makes decadent croissants, danishes, and artisan drinks in-house. Currently, Terms is open Friday thru Sunday, 9 am to 3 pm with limited outdoor seating, and also offers takeout and delivery on Seamless and Grubhub.

Don’t Miss: The menu changes every day, but one thing customers can’t get enough of is the café’s croissants. Some past favorite flavors include almond, stuffed cookies and cream, peanut butter and marshmallow fluff, tricolor stuffed with berry filling as well as savory options like the Breakfast Bombs, flakey croissant dough stuffed with vegan cheese, and tofu scramble. Be sure to check the café’s Instagram to stay on top of the rotating menu.
Must-Try: The Breakfast Sandwich, which features plant-based bacon, JUST Egg scramble, and vegan cheese on a croissant, or the Everything Croissant stuffed with a vegan cream cheese center.

Be Sure to Enjoy: Terms’ carefully crafted drinks, which include artisan sodas, coffees, teas, and lattes like matcha, lavender, and rose.

It’s not all steak and barbecue in Texas: As the most diverse city in the U.S. as ranked in a WalletHub study, Houston has a rich food scene that reflects its multicultural residents. With something delicious to delight everyone’s palate, vegans and vegetarians won’t have any trouble finding places to go to satiate their plant-based cravings. Houston houses many delicious vegan restaurants that cater to those with dietary restrictions. To help you focus on the best of the best, we recommend these awesome spots for vegan meals in Houston.

Here are the 11 best vegan, vegetarian, and plant-based restaurants in the Houston, Texas area.

The 11 Best Vegan Restaurants in Houston, Texas

1. Green Seed Vegan

Calling All: Diners who want delicious, healthy vegan food served with a side of great customer service. Green Seed Vegan is a casual restaurant with a completely vegan menu.

Be Sure to Have: One of their fresh-pressed paninis. It’s hard to choose between mouthwatering options like the Tosh (maple jerk garbanzo tempeh with grilled plantains, spinach, and jerk aioli) and the PB&P (caramelized plantains topped with spinach and peanut butter spread). The paninis are served on French bread, but if you’re going gluten-free, you can swap that out for a brown rice wrap, raw collard wrap, or bed of microgreens.

Leave Room For: Their cauliflower nuggets or sweet potato dill fries as a side dish. Both are addictive options that are sure to be the perfect accompaniment to whichever main you choose.

Take Note: Green Seed Vegan is open every day of the week from 11 am to 8 pm, so whether you need some no-brainer weekday sustenance or want a delicious weekend meal, they’re there for you!

Address: 4320 Almeda Road

2. Verdine

Calling All: Vegans, “veg-curious,” and their friends and family who want to enjoy a meal with great ambiance. Verdine is a stylish spot that along with its full-service vegan menu serves beer and wine and has a dog-friendly patio, making it a great choice for a group to have a fun time out, whether or not they’re plant-based eaters.

Be Sure to Try: The Jackfruit Carnitas, which are tacos filled with smoked, pulled jackfruit and topped off with corn salsa, pickled red onions, and chipotle aioli—or the Waterworks Cheeseburger, which is a Beyond Meat burger with all the signature Fixin’s.

Order to Share: The Orange Cauliflower as an appetizer. Bearing a resemblance to widely popular orange chicken, this mouthwatering vegan version takes tempura-battered cauliflower and coats it in a sweet orange chili sauce.

Leave Room For: One of their gluten-free baked doughnuts (only available on Saturdays and Sundays). You can grab the salty-sweet treat that is their maple ‘bacon’ flavor or check out their flavor of the week.

Take Note: It might be a little tricky to find Verdine’s front door. Look for them in the back half of the building behind Jinya Ramen and next to Floyd’s 99 Barbershop.

Address: 449 West 19th Street

3. Doshi House

Calling All: Coffee and tea lovers looking for a relaxing place to grab a bite. Known for its beverage program, Doshi House also serves vegan food.

Be Sure to Have: The Mumbai Street panini. This flavorful sandwich comes with a long list of delicious ingredients, including curried samosa potato, pickled jalapeño, and masala hummus.

Leave Room for: One of their coffees, teas, tonics, or infusions. After all, their drinks are their main draw! There are quite a lot of options to choose from in either category, but their lattes are favorites with visitors.

Take Note: Don’t expect a traditional sit-down restaurant with table service here. Doshi House is more of a coffee shop where you can enjoy some tasty food while chatting with friends or getting some work done.

4. Aladdin Mediterranean Cuisine

Calling All: Fans of authentic Mediterranean food. Aladdin Mediterranean Cuisine isn’t a vegan restaurant, but its menu does have delicious options for plant-based eaters.

Be Sure to Have: The 4 Veggie Sides combo platter or their falafel combo platter. You’ll get to take your pick from their many different salads, hot vegetable sides, and dips—things like tabouli, green lentil salad, pomegranate eggplant, caramelized onion hummus, saffron rice, and so much more.

Leave Room for: Some of their warm, freshly baked pita bread. Two pieces come with every combo platter, but you can always get more!

Take Note: If you’re not sure what is or isn’t vegan on their menu, don’t hesitate to ask one of their staff members.

Address: 912 Westheimer Road

5. Loving Hut

Calling All: Health and budget-conscious eaters. Loving Hut has an all-vegan menu made from high-quality ingredients. They use non-GMO products whenever possible, and notably, their soy proteins are all non-GMO. You’ll also find that their dishes are pretty affordable with many hovering just under $10.

Be Sure to Have: The King’s Pad Thai. This beauty keeps it vegan by making the dish with rice noodles, vegan sea crescents (instead of shrimp), tofu, and an assortment of colorful veggies in a homemade sauce. If that’s not your jam, try the Golden BBQ Vermicelli, which has BBQ soy protein that may have your non-vegan friends saying, “Hey, this tastes just meat!”

Order to Share: The Golden Wontons or the Golden Rolls. Both have fillings made from a mixture of vegetables along with sweet and sour sauce for dipping.

Leave Room for: Their cheesecake, which is made without dairy, eggs, or honey but is still totally delectable.

Take Note: Loving Hut doesn’t just serve Asian dishes! They also have burgers and wraps for those in the mood for something else.

Address: 2825 South Kirkwood Road #100

6. Veegos

Calling All: Mexican food fanatics. Veegos is in the business of serving up authentic Mexican dishes—and oh yeah, they’re vegan!

Be Sure to Have: This is a tough one, so here’s three. Their nachos: The tortilla chips come fully loaded with veggies, cashew cheese, and sour cream along with your choice of beans, pastor, or jackfruit. We recommend the pastor, which is their meat substitute made from spice-marinated soy flour. You also can’t go wrong with their enchilada plate, which gives you the choice of pastor or jackfruit and red chile or green tomatilla sauce. Then, there is the pozole, a corn hominy stew with veggies.

Leave Room for: One of their aguas frescas or vegan horchata (yes, it’s thing here!) for a refreshing beverage to wash down all of that delicious food.

7. Govinda’s Vegetarian Cuisine

Calling All: Those with a big appetite for Indian food. Come hungry to Govinda’s Vegetarian Cuisine because this establishment offers visitors a buffet of plant-based dishes with Indian flavors.

Be Sure to Have: A sampling of all the vegan dishes. The buffet selection rotates depending on the day, but there are always some tasty vegan foods to be had. For example, you might try their saag aloo (spinach and potatoes), chana masala (chickpea curry), vegetable kofta, or BBQ tofu. Since it’s buffet style, why not get a little of each to find your favorite?

Leave Room for: Something from their salad bar and some of their freshly made roti. You may be filling up on their other hot entrees, but these are also worth a try and will round out your buffet meal.

Take Note: Govinda’s menu is a mix of vegetarian and vegan dishes, but if you want strictly vegan, we recommend visiting on a Wednesday or Sunday as those are the days when all of their servings are vegan.

Address: 1320 West 34th Street

8. Local Foods

Calling All: Hungry folk interested in eating local. As hinted at in their name, Local Foods makes their menu using local ingredients that are carefully sourced. If you’re curious about the farms and purveyors they get their food from, you can see a list on their website.

Be Sure to Have: Whatever vegan dish catches your eye that day! It’s hard to give a specific recommendation since the menu can vary depending on the season and what location you’re at. Some items you may be able to order include their vegan meatball sub, quinoa burger, and garden sammie.

Order to Share: The cashew queso. Who can say no to chili con queso? This vegan version comes with pico de gallo and vegan taco meat.

Take Note: There are five different locations of Local Foods around Houston. You can find them in The Village, Upper Kirby, Tanglewood, Downtown, and The Heights.

Address: 2424 Dunstan Road

9. Burganic Hub

Calling All: Burger fiends. Burganic Hub seeks to bring better ingredients to “fast food”-type food. They have traditional meat burgers on their menu, but they also have a section for vegetarian and vegan burgers.

Be Sure to Have: The Beyond Vegan Burger. Even those who aren’t following a plant-based diet won’t be missing meat with this burger.

Leave Room for: Their fries. There’s something incomplete about a burger meal without some fries on the side. Take your pick between regular potato fries or sweet potato fries.

Take Note: If you’re in a hurry or picking up food for the family, it’s no problem. Feel free to get your order as take-out!

Address: 2721 Chimney Rock Road

10. Quan Yin Vegetarian Restaurant

Calling All: People craving Asian food and/or are on a budget. Located in a strip mall, Quan Yin Vegetarian Restaurant may not seem like much from the outside, but inside they’re serving up delicious, inexpensive Asian dishes that seem like they contain meat but actually have vegan substitutes.

Be Sure to Have: The salted tofu. Once you’ve tried the flavor bombs that are these salty little cubes of fried tofu, you may not be able to get enough.

Leave Room for: Their fried dumplings and eggless egg rolls. Splitting these two appetizers is a solid way to get your meal going.

Take Note: With the nature of the dishes at Quan Yin Vegetarian Restaurant, it’s fun to share multiple items with whoever you’re dining with. Then you get to try even more of their appetizing offerings!

Address: 10804 Bellaire Boulevard #E

11. Green Vegetarian Cuisine

Calling All: People who want to eat more plant-based foods without sacrificing flavor or their traditional favorites. While it might seem hard to imagine vegan or vegetarian versions of beloved Southern comfort cuisine, Green Vegetarian Cuisine does just that. They’re also a kosher restaurant that welcomes the Jewish community.

Be Sure to Have: One of their many standouts like the chik’n fried chik’n, jalapeno cheeseburger, fajita plate, or Mediterranean bowl.

Order to Share: Cauliflower Hot Wings. These drool-worthy cauliflower bites are tossed in a spicy buffalo sauce with some poblano ranch for dipping. You may even want the whole appetizer all to yourself.

Leave Room For: A cupcake for dessert. Green Vegetarian Cuisine has its own bakery so what they offer for dessert changes daily and is baked fresh. If you get a chance, try one of their cupcakes to finish off your meal. You may not be missing “traditional” pastries with a taste of one of their vegan creations.

Take Note: While some of their menu items have eggs and cheese in them, they can make dishes vegan for you with substitutions so don’t hesitate to ask.
